I don't know with other, but it's no brainer to me. I say GO. You don't even have to think about upgrading it until either Microsoft or your mom decides to brick it.
Sounds decent. If you can stand waiting a month, then sure, go for it.how about this ($560):

HP Pavilion 15z: 15.6'' FHD IPS Touch, Ryzen 7 3700U, 12GB DDR4, 512GB PCIe SSD, Win10H.
but ships in a month.
$580 if I upgrade to 802.11ac/b/g/n (2x2) Wi-Fi® and Bluetooth® 4.2 combo

arrg.. I bought it with the $10 upgrade to 1x1 ac.Sounds decent. If you can stand waiting a month, then sure, go for it.
Edit: Yes, get it from the factory with the upgraded 2x2 AC wifi. (see if they have an AX option that's 2x2, too?)
hm.. saw this Dell Outlet Inspiron 15 - 3593 Laptop (refurb)how about this ($560):

I like Dell laptops a lot more than HP, so I'd personally go with it.hm.. saw this Dell Outlet Inspiron 15 - 3593 Laptop (refurb)
Intel Core 10th Generation i5-1035G1 Processor (Quad Core, Up to 3.60GHz, 6MB Cache, 15W)
12g ram, 512g ssd
$421 after coupon
better deal than the HP?
edit:
canceled the HP and bought this one
cool! and $150 lessI like Dell laptops a lot more than HP, so I'd personally go with it.
yup same here.I've ordered ones that said they were "scratch and dent" and "refurbished", and they all have been practically new.
Honestly, with most of their units on their outlet site, unless a person knew it wasn't new, they likely couldn't tell the difference between it and a brand new unit.
Intel chipset / CPU systems have had "Flex Memory Technology" for like forever. It allows for mis-matched RAM capacity per channel, allowing partial dual-channel, and partial single-channel operation.
Basically, it all sort of "just works out" with Intel system RAM configs.
there's no more lights to indicate hard drive activity.
so if the laptop does nothing, I have no idea if it's frozen or im just impatient
I pressed fn + h but nothing happened. There is a function (Fn) key on the keyboard. Hold it down and hit h. This should toggle the power/battery status light over so that it acts as a hard drive LED light.
Here is a link for the function key shortcut layout for the Inspiron 3593.
i bought my mom a 15"quad core laptop using a coupon.Yup, do not do a dual core CPU in 2020. While it sounds like your mother is far from a power user, at least get a quad core CPU or higher.
Also, don't forget about Dell Outlet. That's where I've bought my last 4 laptops, and they all have been practically brand new.....and they come with a 1 year warranty (just like when bought new).

im looking for quad core in the $400 range. Is Costco an option? I only buy from Costco now because the discount + extended warranty + cheap SquareTrade plans are a must for anyone planning to hold onto something for more than 2 years. You usually won’t save much on Apple or MS Surface, but Dell, HP and Lenovo are usually discounted a bit or better configured (8/256 minimum or 16/512.)
Right now they actually do have MS Surface Pro 7 bundles $300 off—$999 for 10th gen Core i5 8gb/256gb with keyboard and stylus.
Decent configs of Dell Inspiron and Lenovo Flex start at $700.
im looking for quad core in the $400 range.
got a 15" Inspiron quad core 12gig/512g ssd for ~$425 with coupon from dell outlet for my mom.
but they havent had coupons for weeks now.
