What should I honestly expect from this workout plan?

Before I get "Repost!!" answers, I did read thie and it didn't answer all my questions. Here is my situation:

30yo, 6'1" tall, 220lbs

Sedentary lifestyle since my daughter was born 3 years ago

Back issues from a job lifting cases of booze back when I was 21, went to physical therapy for about 8 weeks to "fix" it but still get flare ups, especially with a 3yo to contend with

Bad knees, I blame it on being raised Catholic, but it prevents me from doing lunges and rowing squat type exercises

Weighed about 190lbs back in Sept. 2007... quit smoking, gained ~30 pounds between Sep. 2007 and Jan. 2008

What can I honestly expect to get from the Wii Fit if I do 30 minutes of free step (translates to ~3300 steps in 30 minutes) plus 15 minutes of yoga or 15 minutes of strength training alternating days? For example, on Sunday I'll do 30 minutes of step then 15 minutes of half moon, sun salutation, warrior, cobra, bridge, etc. Monday do 30 minutes of step, then 15 minutes of various leg extensions, jackknifes, torso twists, push-ups w/ side planks, etc.

I remember before I hurt my back, I was almost 230 pounds when I started working at the liquor store. It took about 2 months, but I still weighed ~220 pounds but had lost a LOT of inches. 2 months after that I had dropped to about 180 pounds and was half ass cut in the upper body (no 6 pack to speak of, and i'm not going to even pretend I ever had one). So, should I expect the same thing here? Give it 4 months before I expect to see any real noticeable body change?

Are there any supplements you would recommend, such as hydroxycut? I do feel myself craving protien in the evening, such as just opening a can of tuna in water and draining it and eating it w/ a fork, same with salty type foods but I try to stick with pickles or pretzles instead of chips.

Am I doomed to fail? Realistically all I want to do is slim down to ~195 pounds, maybe 185 pounds. I do drink a lot of beer throughout the week, so I know that will be quite a hinderance. Anything you muscleheads would recommend to help me out?

If you're completely sedentary, any activity is a good idea. It's not going to be magic, and you can't "congratulate" yourself, as it were, with snacks. The biggest thing is going to be controlling your eating, and that's also the hardest thing. I recommend using Wii fit, but I also recommend dieting.

With any workout routine or diet you will get whatever you put into it. If someone works hardcore with their diet/workout, they will get in shape. If someone wants to give a half assed effort they will get half assed results.

The boxing in wii fit(I think) is an amazing workout my brother and I boxed for a while the other day and were both dripping sweat by the end of the first game. By game 3 we could barely move. not that it would replace a day in the gym but still a pretty a good workout.

I can tell you that emulating a video game for Yoga is not a good idea, especially if you have health issues such as your back. You are going to end up hurting yourself even more if you don't have correct form which a video game cannot teach you. Also you will only get out of the yoga what you put into it. If you are just going through the movements willy nilly it's not going to accomplish anything, you need correct form and intent.
