i have a celeron 366@550, with 128 meg of pc100 (soon to be 192). this computer doesn't have an AGP slot (its a computer my parents gave me for college), and i am wondering what pci vid card i should get. i love UT and Deus Ex, so i want glide support, and i play a lot of games like counterstrike and system shock2 that aren't REAL demanding graphically, so i want good FSAA. would this processor speed push a v5 5500 (assuming it fits in my case, i'm not QUITE sure yet) enough to make it worth getting over a v4 4500? if there isn't going to be much of a difference, i would rather spend less and get the v4.

thanks a lot!

I second a V5.

No it won't, but you can turn up the detail levels and not take any performance hit. I would suggest getting a new CPU sometime in the near future.

I third the V5, And there also doesn't seem to be performence difference bettween agp and pci version of the V5 for some reson I am unclear of.

hey, in terms of a new processor, do you by chance know if the intel 810 can suport coppermines with the neo 370 adaptor? i can't get answers from HP, who made the piece of crap, or intel. the bios has 133 mhz FSB support, so it makes sense to me that it would support coppermines. why else have that FSB speed?

thanks!

with both V4 and V5 prices near the $150 !!!, V5 is a definate choice as u can use it for your future systems. And their HSR drivers will make them last longer.

or you can get V3 2000 for around $50 either with rebate or buying off of someone. Im getting V3 2k with rebate for my brother. He only has Cel400 and pci slot. im thinking that cel 400 will work with v3 well and ill probably tell him to build a whole new machine from scratch once he needs to upgrade.

It's because 3dfx don't have a T&L engine they don't have to send extra vertex data across the bus. Look how crippled a GF2 MX PCI is compared to its AGP brother. The PCI bus just can't take the extra information required for T&L.
