Okay, my BDay is comin up and I'm gonna get a new LCD monitor. I need to stick around $300 or lower. I play a lot of games, but also do a lot of homework and text based stuff. In the 17"-19" range, what would be the best monitor in my budget. I read that the Hyundai L90D+ was great, but there's a lot of people complaining of dead pixels on these so I'm not sure I want to risk it. I'm pretty much a noob when it comes to displays, so help me out.

For $300 or lower, I can recommend the Samsung SyncMaster 730B 17" LCD monitor as I have it myself. It's great for games with its 8 ms response time and I see no ghosting, blurring, or the like. If you can wait a while, you should be able to find a 730BF 17" LCD monitor, which is the same thing, except it has a 4 ms response time, so that's even better, but it comes at a slight price premium.

Oh yes, about dead or bad pixels. My Samsung SyncMaster 730B had none when I got it, and has had none for about 2 1/2 months since I got it.

EDIT: Ah, that's too much money for this monitor. I got it for $250 AR. This is a little better:

But remember to look around at every option, and often, before you make a purchase to ensure you get the best price.

I ordered my Samsung SyncMaster 710T through Newegg.com/Fedex 3-day shipping and it had no stuck/dead pixels.

Ya I was looking around, Compusa was just up when I posted it.

I trust most online shops, but with this kind of investment I don't want to be stuck w/ 6 black dots in the middle of my screen and not be able to do anything about it. So I'd rather go in-store for that reason.

I trust Newegg more than I trust Best Buy, Circuit City or CompUSA (etc)

I think I'm gonna pick up the SyncMaster 730B this weekend. Thanks for the input!
