This is a revised post of my last failed one hah!

I decided I cannot afford a new build as I am purchasing a 32''or maybe 37'' 1080p TV for my PC monitor

due to the resolution, I need a bit heftier OOMPH on my video end. Current setup runs 1680x1050 just fine. For that increased res 1080p (not a whole lot increase) I want to have it at least the same, if not better

Going from
res 1680x1050
AMD athlon X2 5000 (oc'd 3.ghz)
ATI 4850 512 MB
2G DDR2 800
AM2 MOBO (actually SLI capable)
win 7 pro
-----------------------------------
to
res 1920x1080
AMD athlon II X3 435
2x250GTS 1GB each (2GB total)
4G DDR2 800
AM2 MOBO (SLI) will decrease to HT1.0 but CPU is supported, shouldn't affect much...
win7Pro

wife will be cannabalizing my 4850 into her PC to make it faster....the AM2 BE 5000 CPU will stay put and then thrown in wifes computer when I upgrade to an actual AM3 SLI MOBO later on this winter.

i realize gts250 and 4850 compete in the same area of performance, but I'm thinking SLI+new CPU should at least give me similar performance w/ a higher res, as I am very satisified w/ perforamnce as it is right now.

AMD sli mobos are based on old obsolete chipsets. Really if you are going AMD you pretty much need to forget about nvidia chipsets.

I think when I get the new display, I'll just have to see how it plays.

If it's fine I'll stick w/ what I have for a while longer... I really would rather get a whole new chipset but w/ the newer ram it just gets about $100-150 too expensive.

I would imagine SLI-250s should get you about the same performance as a gtx-470? Without the latter's feature set, of course.
