I just had my bro-in-law buy me an ATI X850XT AGP 256MB from Microcenter while they still have their deal going (190 AR, though mine was a return clearance that comes to 140 AR). Below is my current setup. It will be a few days before i get the card in my hands. What should i expect or will i see a difference (i.e. do i have another bottleneck that will make this upgrade pointless)?

P4 3.0c CPU
P4I865PE Soyo Dragon 2 Plus Mobo (8x AGP)
1 GB PC3200 (Geil Value Ram)
120 WD IDE HD
ATI 9800 Pro 256mb (256 bit version)
Current 3dMark 2005 = 2831
Current 3dMark 2003 = 5948

Thanks for your thoughts!

For the price, you are getting a great upgrade. You should get a full resolution up from what you have now easily with even more eyecandy on. Very nice :)

Not to mention your 9800 Pro will probably fetch nearly $100 in the FS/FT forums.

You computer is going to get a little noiser, though :p

Well, your 3DMark score will more than double, as will your performance overall in games (i.e. slightly more than twice as fast). Means you can now crank up the settings, resolution or turn AA back on :)

Enjoy!

well i approximately doubled the performance of my 9800xt . . . 3005 3DMark05. . .

. . . x850xt at PE . . . 6537 2DMark05

F.E.A.R. plays 'fluidly' at 10x7 with everything 'on' and 'hi' and 'max' [except SS and even with a touch of AA -2xAA/4xAF] . . .with the 9800xt it was still 10x7 but medium details and still a little 'hitchy'. . . . even CoD2 looks nice. . . . can crank ALL the detals in SeriousSam2 [and it "looks" better]

for my $200 it is a decent upgrade
