What should I eat (or drink) to get my voice back?

My throat has been sore for a few days....until this morning. When I woke up, I was pleasantly surprised that the pain had disappeared. It felt kind of tight around my adams apple, but no big whoop. It wasn't until a little later that morning, when i showed up at school and actually tried to talk---I had no voice! Seriously, all day I've been completely mute, I can only whisper. Occasionally a hint of sound comes out on certain words, but 85% of the time it's just whispy-airy sounds. lol

Anyway, it's not really painful, but this "tightness" around my voicebox is really uncomfortable. I have to take the ACT tomorrow, and really want to avoid distractions as much as possible. Any suggestions for loosening things up? Drinking tons of water and taking a hot shower have already been tried, both are very temporary fixes....very temporary.

Gargle with warm salt water?
Yep! Even better, if you can handle the taste, gargle an asprin tablet dissolved in warm water.

They both work much better than gargling with chunky peanut butter. 😉

Orange Juice. It may hurt to swallow, but the acidity will be good for you, and the extra vitamin C will boost your immune system, and help fight things off from the inside.

Also, try and take vitamins and anything with vitamin C.

What? Acidity is not what he wants. He wants alkalinity(is that a word? lol). The salt water idea is the best. Another option is baking soda. If you use baking soda, sip it very slowly, let it trickle down your throat. It will feel better immediately.

BTW, oranges don't really have very much vitamin C. I don't know why people associate them with vitamin C. Probably due to orange juice marketing.

You know, this whole time, I was thinking that his throat still hurt. I really don't know what you can do about getting your voice back, other than time.

Well, any extream in pH will help. It will kill whatever is living in his throat. And while Oranges themselves do not have alot of V. C. Most orange juices have extra added to them

Yo are right though, I was thinking it was a sore throat, not a loss of voice. I relaly don't know, other then singer and the guy that used to do the micromachine commercials used to swallow vasaline to coat htier throat, but that's more for a scratchy throat.

Don't worry. You have laryngitis like I do. Its annoying but it will go away in a few days.

Umm, there probably are other fruits that have more Vitamic C than oranges, but orange juice is a great source for Vitamin C.

Lol, yeah..some people would really benefit if they lost their voice. And to the average ATer who probably types more on here than they talk with other people in real life it wouldn't make a difference 😉

Now if there was only a way to get people to stop typing..
