I have three important upgrades that I want to do.
2100 Tbred B (going to try for at least 2800 speeds, should be easy)
New video card (this will wait until I try D3 on my 4600 and see if it is a major thing to do)
Another stick of 512 2700 (it is just so dirt cheap in comparison to pre-Christmas).
I already have 512, do you really think it is that important to add another 512 at this moment. Would it better to allocate more funds to the 2100 and a new vid card?
When I find out whether the 5800 non-U version will overclock to the speed of the U version, I will make a decision on what I should do vid card wise.
The way I see it, if the 5800 non-U overclocks well, it will be well under its release price of 300$ by July (eta for D3 changed from march to July!?). What I had in mind is to buy the 2100 (unless the Tbred-B 'a' stepping or a new one that is better is easy to get) once the bartons start to increase in numbers (mid march?) Buy the vid card, and then, if the RAM gods are feeling good, buy another stick of 512.
RAM always goes down at certain times. I just do not want to wait until the next chinese new year to add another stick. True, that I might have to upgrade my mobo by then as well. I have the 8k3a ATM, so I should be able to stay well up there by simply overclocking the tbred. Do you think by next year in January a 1GB 166FSB XP 2800-3000+ GeForce FX setup will be too far behind the times? The only thing I could say yes to would be the vid card. Aside from that, I think everything else will be very close to top-of-the-line, since we might be seeing 3.6 ghz processors around (hammer Q4 2003?, prescott when?).
Opinions: Do you think the ti4600 will run D3 and D3 engine based games well? It is a dx8 engine. Since D and Q are and will always be the main games I play, I picture myself playing Q4, whenever it releases, for a long time. Played Q1 until Q2; played Q2 until Q3, and I played Q3 till recently, since all the good players seemed to have disappeared. I miss playing ppl like fatality, of course if he is still as good as the last time I played with him, I probably would not be able to go head2head with him. I miss playing quake, but there is no one to play. I havent played Q3 since the summer
Since I will probably be playing them for a long period of time, does it make sense to get a card that will run them very well? I think so, that is how I justify getting an FX.
Please do not tell me to get a radeon, let's not turn this into a nvidia vs ati discussion. If you cannot do that, then please pretend I said "I want a better card than my ti4600", and imagine it as whatever you like.
