Ok I've decided to upgrade...I can't stand this POS compaq anymore! The case just drives me crazy, I have to take almost everything out just to install ram. Now I can't get the CDRom or CDRW working, and it's just all fvcked up. I still want to keep some of it, because I can't afford to upgrade the whole thing right now. The things I'm going to get rid of:

mobo
Pentium II 300


Here are the full specs:
Compaq Presario 4660
300 Mhz Pent II
128 mb pc133 CAS3 Kingston Valueram
8 gb Quantum Bigfoot XL
Voodoo 3 3k PCI
PCI modem
50x generic CD-Rom
8x4x32 Sony CDRW
PCI modem.


What are my options, I'm looking to keep as much of the system as I can, and save the most money. I do attempt to play games (Tribes 1 as of now) so that is sort of under consideration. Money is not something that I have a lot of, So please keep that in mind.

well you can just pick up a new duron 650 and an fic az11e , or epox 8ka+ or something cheap, and pretty much keep everything else. Most of the new socket A boards have cheap onboard sound anyways, and its pretty decent. With a case shouldn't cost you much more than $200.
 
Ok I'm going to order a Duron 600 unlocked with conductive paint from someone on the FS\FT forum, will do at least 850($50 shipped)...I'm going to get the MSI K7t pro2 from mwave.com for $123 shipped. That's $173, now what case shall I get?
 
well if you want somthing cheap and not to big, i have built many systems with the aopen hx45 and it is ok...but then again if you are o/c'ing your cpu then you might wamt something bigger, you could always use the hx08, i have that one too and its cool, but i am sure a bunch of people will tell you to get the antec sx830
