What should I do?

As I posted in another - unreplied to - thread, I got fired from my job today. :(

The manager cited no reasons, other than that "I wasn't a good fit for the team." Maybe she was right; I swore off working in retail, but gave REI a shot, since it sounded like a good fit for me. Now I really feel confused. I've worked as a Network Consultant, a Commision Salesperson, a Tech Lead...among other things. I've been about 1/2 balanced between computers and other areas throughout my five year employment history.

I don't know what I want to do, or more accurately, where I want to work. According to her, I'm more than welcome to apply at REI for a different position; I'm considering that, possibly in a different area and under a different manager. I really don't know what to do, though...

I've never had problems with my employers before, and have always been seen as an exemplary employee. This really caught me by surprise.

Currently considering...

Barista (local coffeeshop).
Going back to work at REI.
Trying to get setup with a friend running a department's network.

The big thing I'll miss about REI is the people, and the perks - 30% off regular merchandise, plus the opportunity to order directly from manufacturers for 20-30% off wholesale.

Grr. This is gonna be running through my head for a while. :|

Instead of firing you, why didn't she just make you transfer to a different department/store? Very weird.

Entity, I'm sorry to hear that. I take it you worked at the store right off of I-5? I know a few people who have worked there and really enjoyed it so maybe you can go to a different area. It is strange that she didn't give you the opertunity to move though.

A guy at our Church is a big wig there. At least that's what I have beed told.

Yeah, but I got the feeling she was holding something back from me. Like she wanted to tell me why she had to let me go, but had to be nice about it... :Q

I really don't know. I thought I was a good employee; I was late occasionally, and I know that tarnished my name a bit, but I did good work - I worked very well with customers and well with other employees too.

I'm going to call tomorrow and ask about working in a different department. I may as well pick up another application. This really sucks, though - I can't sleep. My mind is just reeling.

Some managers aren't to good at confrontation so like you said, there might of been something but she was just wasn't sure how to tell ya. That's stinks though because you could of tried to fix what ever it was that was wrong.

Maybe you can go ask her today what it is you can work on so you don't make the same mistake in the next position you get. If there was any thing...

Without knowing you, sometimes people are great at their job just need to work on their people skills. Or maybe everyone else is a square peg in a round hole. Did you feel alienated from fellow employees, or piss anyone off lately? It didn't have to be a situation with your boss. Just some thoughts. Believe me I've been in situations where I just wanted to do my job and really don't care for the people I was working with. Then again, it could be entirely something different. Just some thoughts.

I am sorry about your job, Entity.
My husband was in a similar situation a while ago.
I hope you find something very soon!
