So I purchased a BlackBerry Storm from Craigslist and unlocked it and activated it for tmobile, I used it for a few days no problem and then I activated the BlackBerry data plan on my phone and all of the suddent I started getting emails responding to a CL posting...I was thinking to my self like wtf? I dont have a posting on CL...I check the posting and its for a massage service...and the dudes picture is on the posting!! I search more on the phone and discover it has a memory card in it and has pictures and it is indeed the massage guys phone who has a service he advertises on craigslist. I didnt think the phone was stolen as it came with a box and all. I checked the box and it turns out the numbers dont match and its not the box for this phone. Well, I remembered that I didnt clear my previous phone and I still have the phone number of the lady who sold it to me.

Cliffs:
Purchased phone from CL
Phone is stolen
I found owners info and I still have sellers info

wtf?

The story is pretty confusing, but how do you know it's stolen? Isn't it possible that the massage guy sold the phone to the guy who sold it to you?

I looked more on this memory card and it has all of his info on it, like the type of stuff you dont "accidently" leave on a phone you sell.

Some people won't even delete their contacts when selling their own phone. Don't be too sure.

What you /should/ do is contact the former owner. That may put you out of a big chunk of money though. What would I do? I don't know. Can you determine the last time the phone was used by the legitimate owner?

Honestly I didnt... I saw some TXT msg's and stuff on the phone but I didnt think anything of it so I wiped the phone.

I have been doing some reading on this and it turns out I wont stop getting these emails as the phone's PIN is locked in with the guys account, which means he hasnt de-activated the phone from his Verizon account...Ugg im so angry right now. I think I am going to call the person who sold it to me and request my money back and have her deal with it...I'm not sure what she will say though when I explain this.

as others have said, there's a good chance the original owner just didn't think about or care about deleting the info. I bought an iPhone off CL, not only did it have all the persons info still there, but it had 10 gigs of music. I can only image none of the songs were legally purchased from the iTunes store. So the person didn't care about their personal info, or the fact it was chocked full of pirated music.

The person on the phone was a large white male. The lady who sold me the phone was a younger mexican lady. I still think it was stolen, all of the evidence points to it.

If you really want to get back in contact with her, call her back up and claim you found a 100 dollar bill neatly folded up & hidden inside the phone. "I guess you must have had emergency money in there. I always keep a 20 in my phone, just in case. I just wanted to be honest and see if you wanted it back."

I don't know how to take it from there.
