What should I do?

What should I do given the circumstances?

  • Stay with my KRZR.

  • Get the Versa.

  • Wait because better new lightweight phones are on the horizon.

Okay so here's my dilemma. My NE2 w/ Verizon has been up since last July and I am currently out of contract with them. Due to Verizon being far superior to the other carriers in the area, I am almost definitely staying with them.

I currently have a Motorola KRZR. It has a horrible battery and texting is a nightmare (I don't text much at all though.) However, it IS fairly loud on rings and lightweight (two things I like very much.)

I just got back from the Verizon store. To my horror, most of the phones they had there seemed like crap. I even got to play with the Storm 2 but while it seems nice on paper, there's something... cheap? about it when you actually use it compared to the iPhone.

Anyways, my only criteria are small and lightweight, good battery, good call quality, and loud ringer. I was originally considering a smartphone but have since nixed the idea and bought a 3rd gen iTouch instead.

I do like the fact that the LG Versa is small (I was surprised that it was pretty much the size of my KRZR) and decently loud but it doesn't feel like it's THAT much better than my phone for some reason (maybe that's just me?) It would certainly be an improvement but not much of one it seems. With my NE2, I could get it free provided I let them saddle me with a new contract (though I have no intention of moving from Verizon.) I guess my main concern is if I get it, then some nifty new non-smartphone that better meets the criteria I laid out comes out. Does anyone know if Verizon is getting anything nice that meets what I'm looking for?

As for the poll, what do you guys think I should do?

Well, as much as I love the Droid I would not compare it to a KRZR or LG versa. If he is looking to go with something inexpensive the Droid is not it. Especially if his other concerns are small and lightweight.

As for my opinion: LG has been having a lot of difficulty with their medium range phones lately. I believe the Versa is one of them. It resets often when you are web browsing and resets infrequently while doing other things. Verizon and LG have both been trying to keep a lid on this but if you go digging around on 3rd party websites and forums you can find some info.
My Voyager has this problem but its much more extreme, the Env2 and Env3 and Env Touch are all supposed to have this issue as well.

I'd avoid LG for this generation, even though in the past they made excellent phones.
As with most times when someone asks for a good basic phone I often recommend a Nokia. The problem is Verizon doesnt have many Nokias and what they currently have arent the best in the world. The Twist has actually been getting decent reviews and if you can deal with the unusual appearance you'd have a nice little text machine on your hands.
If you dont like the twist I'd recommend waiting a bit. They have plenty of phones lined up from now until Xmas.

Yeah, I deleted my own post myself. I didn't read through his whole message, and so my reply suggesting a droid didn't make sense. Besides I wanted to test the new "delete" function.

I agree with what Shorty posted - although I personally don't like the Twist - I think it looks silly. :)

How about a Nokia 2705? It's the top rated non-Smartphone phone at Verizon's website.

Since you don't seem to really care for the LG don't get it. No point in re-upping for something you really don't care for. Since what you have is doing a good enough job hang on to it until something comes along that you really want.

Thanks, guys!

pm: I looked at the Shade but the "cheap plastic" comments on Verizon's site have me a bit worried...

Keep them opinions coming!
