We are agreeing that Microsoft Flight Simulator X will run on High Settings, with a good FPS, on this system - AMD Athlon 64 4000, 2gb's of ram, and a GeForce 8 Card(If Not, then the GeForce 7950GX2).

Maybe it's hard to say right now, but could you guys give me your opinion on that conclusion above?

If it don't run at 50fps average on that system Microsoft will sell about 200 copys.

We are quite a while from seeing either Vista or DX10. There isn't much point in upgrading the single core to another single. The improvement isn't worth the investment of $135+. When the game comes out, get another GB of RAM, the best video card possible, and maybe work a little OC magic on the CPU.

If you find yourself needing an all-new machine, there's plenty of people here that can slap together a few links.

I also think, based on the minimum specs that you can take a good guess as to what the reccommended specs will be. All you need is 1GB more ram and that system is fine. A 3200 A64 can still cut it in games, hell an old athlon XP can still cut it. At max settings..... Well what are the max settings? Some games have low/medium/high/stupid-high that you need a supercomputer to run.

So in conclusion:

Your current system is fine, adding 1GB more ram just for futureproofing, but if max settings are somthing like 2048x2048x32 16xAA 16xAF with all the bells & whistles enabled, then you, you might need a brand new system for that. The one you put together above should do it. Although i would simply stick with the system you have and run the game on high instead of stupid-high, thats just me :p

I dont have money to just want to "buy" stuff, so no, not the case. I've said many many times in this topic, what I want, and that's to play the game full settings with a good fps. I never said I just want to buy stuff.

And building a new system, would be very very stupid. It's plain and clear right now, all I need is 1gig more of ram, and a very good video card. The AMD Athlon 3200 Venice Chip, should do fine, the only reason I wanted to upgrade that is because I like to be able to alt tab stuff and multi task.

Ya I dont think it will. I am really not in the position to replace my motherboard right now....Anyone have a link to a good CPU that will allow me to multi task and play Flight Sim X the best that I can?

Yes, your board will support an X2 like this one.

Sry, but that is wrong. That board will not support X2.

Don't go by what Newegg says. Click here for DFI's product site. Scroll down to where it says:
Specification

AMD® Athlon 64 X2 / Athlon 64 FX / Athlon 64 / Sempron
Socket 939

Oh yah? Well that's cool. So I could get a dual core x2....I wanted to get one of those, not because I thought it would run FLight Sim better, but because I love to be able to alt tab faster and multi task....so if it does support X2 Chips, heck, I'm gettin one. I think they have a few good ones for like 200 - 250.

I want to be able to play Flight Sim X when it is release............................
clearly, you have a pretty nice rig right now. so whats the debate? wait. you'll want the latest and greatest hardware from what i understand, so why worry about it now?

when the game is out, do yourself up a nice rig.

Yah. Right now, this computer can play BF2 on high, and get little little lag...But the computer I have right now, AMD Athlon 3200 Venice Chip, 1gb, X1800 PRO, will not run Flight Sim X on high. And like I said, I want to make sure I can run it on high.

So we came up with the idea that the CPU I have right now, is fine. All I need to do, is upgrade that video card, and get 1 more gig of ram. Then I should be fine. If anything, I'll upgrade to a Dual Core, because I want to multi task, but that has nothing to do with Flight Sim.

roflmao ... NO Offence dude ... but please download the demo...turn up the settings ... and then re evaluate your own comment ..

As for my system .. Its able to run fs9 in full eyecandy mode with the following specs

Athlon 64 3800 @ 2.5ghz
2 Gigs Ram
Geforce 7900GTX
Asus A8N-E
When i tried the FSX demo i was getting 13 frames a second... This is unworkable for flight simmers .. And most of the fs die hards (including myself .. been simming since fs4 for dos) should know that Microsoft doesnt make fs to run great on the current hardware out there due to tha fact that the sim is supposed to last 2-3 years.. Makes no use to buy anything now .. . and for those who are wondering ..its built to support both dx 9 and 10 with the better visuals coming in when 10 gets released with Vista ... I was looking to upgrade to conroe but i decided against doing so until everything gets released and we can evaluate what the dx10 cards can do performance wise with the sim...

If you must upgrade right now... add more memory ... those hi res textures are going to eat many systems as a "light lunch" :D

Cheers

Yah I think that is jsut the demo. Something's wrong with it and it's capping everyone's FPS or something, idk. But ya if the game can only run at 12 fps with a system like that, the no one will buy the game and Microsoft will lose tons of money. I think the actual game will me much different.

I saw that discussion on avsim ... so yes .. i know they will get some of the performance bugs out ... however keep in mind that when the game is released the people with ordinary systems will prolly have their sliders set to low or medium or somewhere in between!! .. The people who have been playing this sim for years know that with every release of fs requires basically a major upgrade to get to the "nirvana point" The nirvana point is the level where you basically think you are getting the most out of the game with flluid steady frames.

This game i dont think will be able to be run with everything set to high until prolly 2 more graphics card cycles ... keep in mind the first card that ran fs 9 "semi decently was the 9800pro" before that everyone had to make sacrifices in the settings dept.

When i mean semi decently i mean most settings to high and prolly 1024x768 res and 2x or 4x AA and 8X AF with a constant or near constant 20 frames (back in the early fs9 days)

Again my suggestion ... Keep enjoying fs 9 ... get fsX on the day its released ... BUT DONT BUY ANY MAJOR HARDWARE UPGRADES till a few months after the sim has been released..

I dont want a card or a cpu thats going to run this game half assed ... When i upgrade i want to see it done right.. and even then i bet you 10 bucks that EGLL and KJFK will still make the system choke

Just my opinion ... Im a simmer just like you and thats the path im taking..

Cheers

Have you tried downloading this?
Scroll down and get the msxml.msi file.

This should get the demo to work. Some of Microsoft's games require the MS XML Parser or whatever it's called.

And dude, rather than buy a Video Card NOW and then wait for the game to come out, I highly recommend you buy the game when it comes out, install it, and see just how much more performance you need. By then, someone will post a review online explaining how much the game benefits from more cores/RAM/GPU power etc.

I wouldn't worry too much about DirectX 10 cards because it looks like they won't be out before Xmas (IIHO). Tell me if the demo works with the file I asked you to get.

The DX10 version of FSX will have features unavailable on DX9. Apparently the sky and water will have significant improvements, as well as dynamic cloud shadowing and scatter-lighting.

So I think you should wait..

If its so plain and clear, why are you still asking questions? Read the 3 pages of posts and go buy the "very good" video card and 1gb ram. Despite the X1800 already being a very good video card....

You can put an X2 into your mobo. Just make sure that your bios supports it. If not just update your bios with the latest version and you're good to go (well, except for the drivers and M$ hotfix). I would not upgrade your cpu unless you are going to dual-core. Your 3200+ is good enough. Just add another 1gb of ram. I would say that your vid card is fine, but upgrade that when you buy the game to the best you can afford. :)

I second him. How to you know the game doesnt run with good FPS until you try it out. So my suggestion is wait for the game to be out, after the game is out, try running it in your current system with the resolution and the settings(AA, AF etc) that you are happy with . If you think or see that the game is choppy , then you can think about upgrading.

Yes it will. My DFI Lanparty UT SLI-D doesn't advertse X2 support. But if you keep up to date on the BIOS it allows usage of x2 CPUs.
