What Should i do

Hey all, i was wondering if i should get a 7800gtx, 2 7800gt's in SLI or just wait for the G71, i want this pc to last and play future games like Unreal tournament 2007 and other next gen games on best graphics quality, is the G71 worth the wait? or would 2 7800gt's outpreform it. and also how much (roughly) will the G71 cost?

really? ok good, i was about to order a SLI system with 2 7800 gt's, will these new cards outpreform those. and also what would be a good CPU to go with it?

Not really. Just OC it a bit, to 4600+ specs at least. Besides, in high settings (high res, plus AA/AF), you'll be GPU limited in most cases.

I also wanted to get 7800 GT SLI (relatively affordable and fast) but I guess I'm gonna wait a few weeks (hopefully not longer) for G71 which should be faster and quieter than two GTs. As for its price, I hope it will be cheaper than GTX 512.

i have no idea whatsoever how to overclock a CPU and dont feel like putting down a bunch of money on a CPU, and extra cooling with a chance of wrecking my CPU.

By the time UT2007 comes out, a 7800GTX will be a minumum requirement. So i reccommend you wait for the next card line to come around. If you wait more than 2 months to buy your new card, your buying already spent technology 😛

I predict that in several years from now, the most intensive games at the that particular point of time will require a lot more than what a 7800gtx offers today.

Today, a once $400 9700pro can barely handle Quake 4, and this was less than half a decade ago.

Read a few posts here, especially the A64 OC guide. I'm not suggesting any heavy overclocking that would endanger your CPU. What I'm suggesting is getting some more performance out of a CPU which is easily capable of delivering it. You don't need any super cooling for this. What I mean is e.g. OCing the X2 3800+ from 2 GHz to 2.4 GHz. Usually it can be done with ease, with no core voltage increase and a negligible heat increase.

I'm usually anti-OC but in case of A64 X2 CPUs there is really no reason not to overclock. If you do it reasonably, you end up with a quite a bit faster CPU with no drawbacks or risk.
