What should I do?

I'm not sure what I should do. I just got this email and visted monarch which said the ETA was December 5:

Thank you for your recent order with Monarch Computer! You placed an order for an Opteron 165 processor. We received an overwhelming response to the processor, which quickly depleted our existing inventory. Unfortunately, we have just been informed by AMD directly that there was a manufacturing issue that occurred on this particular processor. AMD does not expect to have stock on this processor until the end of this month, and that may change depending on the manufacturing process. We do apologize immensely for this, and would like to offer you an AMD gift bag of items to go along with your processor once they are available for shipping again. If you have any questions, please do no hesitate to reply back to this email. Be sure to include your order number in any correspondence back. Please check our website for the most up to date ETA on the processor, and if there are any developments that will cause any more delays we will update you.

Should I cancel my order and order a 165 somewhere else (although I think most placed will be oss), or buy a diff proc, or just wait it out.

Thanks for the help

I hope this does not mean AMD plans to nerf the leetness of the the Dual core opteron line.
You can try finding that somewhere else. One month is a long ass time.

Suck it up. OSA170CDBOX or plain X2 3800+ or wait. I do know of a retalier with 165s still in stock, but they want $340 for em. :(

The choice is yours.

I'm leaning towards just waiting. What do you guys think the chance that they won't overclock as well?

Yea I think I'm gonna have to sacrifice my 7800GT for that Opteron 170. O well, luckily they just came out with the 6800GS :D

Just talked with monarch rep and he said the same. He mentioned the fact that they have a plentiful supply of 170's but they are bout a C note higher than the 165's...who knows, when the 165's get back in stock they may sell for a premium since they are in demand. I wouldn't be surprised to see them sell for $319 come Dec 5th (the OEM's arriving the 28th of Nov.)

dont cancel the reason why opterons oc soo nicely is because they are a higher grade quality than athlons that is why they put them into servers because they are stable.

Is there any difference between a 165 and 170? Or is it the exact same chip that the factory clocks at 200mhz higher?

Also, if I cancel my order and buy a 170, should I also buy this mobo?

I originally bought the DFI LanParty SLI mobo, but since i'm changed my system to not do sli, does this board oc as good? Thanks.

Thanks, I couldn't find any reviews (only user reviews on resellerrating), but I plan on overclocking so I figured a DFI bord would be good. Also, can someone answer this questions:

If there is a difference, I will probably buy the 170, but if there isn't, I will probably just wait a month for the 165.

Pretty sure it has a 10x multiplier instead of 9x. I am in the same situation as you, but I think I am just gonna go for the 170.

That's what makes it 200Mhz faster
9 x 200HTT = 1.8GHz
10 x 200HTT = 2.0GHz

Higher multiplier gerenally means higher overclock, so the Opteron 170 will overclock a slight bit more than the Opteron 165 on average, but it still varies from chip to chip.
