What Should I do?

I have just recently purchased and built my computer with the following components:

Amd64 3400+ s939 CPU
Asus A8V Deluxe Motherboard
Thermalright xp-90 w/ panaflow M1A
Arctic Silver 5

I did all installation as instructed, but when i had to remove the heatsink to make sure it doesn't get scratched while moving the very very close psu, for some reason the cpu went with the heatsink. At first, I had hoped i could fix it, but was unable to to no avail. The pins were bent, and when i got them all straightened and into the socket, hte motherboard gave me the error taht there was no cpu.

I need to know if this is completely my fault, or if any of hte following companies would be able to help me.

Tiger Direct. I purchased the cpu and motherboard from tiger direct in the combo deal. It has only been a week since delivery, so i was hoping that they would maybe let me exchange the cpu.

Arctic Silver 5. I put the precisely described amount (about the size of a grain and a half of rice), but it caused the cpu to completely stick like glue to the heatsink.

Asus. The socket did not completely hold the cpu. I closed it when i installed it and it was held tightly as possible, but for some reason it did not hold the bottom of hte cpu properly. it bended the pins of the top part of hte cpu and caused it to no longer function.

Thermalright, my heatsink may have been slightly, very slightly too long or something and had put itself onto the cpu too tightly, causing it to attach itself.

This is all speculation and I'm so pissed right now i dont know waht to do. I just blew my other cpu a few weeks ago in a very stupidly similar fashion, and i dont know what caused the problem in the first place. maybe it was all my fault, but im so broke that i can't afford another cpu

Most likely your fault. By another CPU when you can afford it.

Your best bet is to consult the return policies of Tiger Direct/AMD. Those are probably the only two companies that could help you.

Yeah when I removed the heatsink for the first time in my life the CPU went violently with it. One pin bent, but it easily bent back into place and ran fine. Scary as hell though. Now I know to twist the heatsink to remove it rather than just tugging on it, mobos usually don't hold CPUs down very well.

Anyway RMA with either Tiger Direct or AMD. Did you buy the retail or OEM version? If it's OEM, you're outa luck with AMD, but since many venders place like 1 - 3 month warranties on most items, Tiger might still be able to help.

One more thing, not trying to sound harsh, but how the hell do you have a socket 939 3400? I know it's a typo, but what do you really have?

not a typo. it's a oem chip (meaning im outta luck with amd), that was released to a certain company. they didn't use them all so it was sent to basically newegg and tigerdirect for resale. only certain motherboards updated their bios to support it, so it was only purchasible through a bundle. its the same specs as a 3500+, but with a 1600mhz htt rather than 2000mhz

oh and also, is it normal for the thermalright heatsink to cause the metal ont he cpu to sort of be scraped on the edges. when i took mine out it had a few scratches and a scraped edge on 2 sides. thanks again
