I have this PC :

Dual p3 500
512 MB PC100 SDRAM
AGP ATI All-In-Wonder Rage Pro (TV Tuner, multiple Video Inputs) 128 MB
PCI Riva TNT 32 MB
20 Gig 7200 RPM Drive

What can I do with this ?

Too old for games. Don't really need any sort of server services.

Maybe some video stuff ?? PVR ?

Get a GF4 MX and a Leadtek TV tuner card and do some PVR. Best idea I can come up with.

it's already got pretty similiar, though much older, versions of those 2 cards.

But is a dual P3 500 enough juice for decent PVR ?

Yes it's enough for PVR. But your cards are old, the new Leadtek tuners have PVR functionality built into them that the ATI card you have can't dream of. :)

ps - I had horrible experiences with ATI TV tuner cards a few years ago. I am now heavily biased against them. The fanATIcs can say what they want now.

so the CPU + RAM is enough, but the cards aren't...that sux cuz I can't really spend any money on this project.

I'm in with the token "Give it to me!" response :p

I'm ripping a DVD on my computer right now, and the freakin thing is taking 12+ hours. 8.5 hrs down, about 4 to go :(. Long time to have the computer basically unusable.

I'd use it for a DVD ripping machine.

P3s don't transcode A/V very well.

True, but even if it took 24 hours, you'd still be able to use your main computer while it was doing it. Just let it sit and do its thing. Of course, if he already has 2 machines not including the P500, then this wouldn't make much sense.

My computer is nearly unresponsive when I try to do anything on it while its encoding :(. Renders it basically useless for the entire time it's doing the A/V.
