what should i do with this compaq laptop?

my gf bought a compaq laptop (compaq presario 1200)about 1.5 years ago. It has no warranty and now the pin in the power port cord is loose. I have called computer shops and is $60-75 bucks for them to have a look at it. Now, i higly suspect that after they take a look at it most likely they will tell me that the motherboard needs to be replaced and that will probably run in the 300-400 range. Knowing my gf, she will say that she won't pay for it to be fixed. And thus there's going to be a decent laptop sitting around collecting dust b/c i think it would be cheapter just to get a new one. Do you =guys know if the parts could be sold?

ps. anybody in austin in here proficient at messing up with laptop motherboards??? 🙂

look on ebay for a dead one, but I bet you could fix it with a little ATOT help and a soldering iron 🙂

A Docking Station Mabye... They Normally Have a Power COnnector on them so that bad one on the lappy itlesf wouldnt matter...

Now for a helpful response...

I could replace the plug...anyone halfway profficient in electronics & soldering could replace it. Some guy on ebay will replace it for you for like $150 (what a deal!!! 😕 ). The plug shouldn't cost any more than $5...

stick it up where the sun dont shine 😀

seriously, though... practise with a soldering iron until you are proficient and fix it yourself...

<< ain't there an easier fix, like supergluing the darn power cord outlet pin?????

Short answer: no. 🙂

Take out the screws on the bottom, pop the hinge covers off the display, unscrew the display, pop off and disconnect the touchpad/palm rest, pop out and disconnect the keyboard, unscrew and remove the keyboard holder panel, take out the modem, take out the cdrom, take out the hard drive cover panel, remove motherboard screws and standoffs, remove various connections, pull out motherboard, remove old connector, solder new connector in, repeat this backwards.
