what should i do with older computer stuff

im cleaning out a bedroom in my house that ive used for storage and ive got lots of old win 85/98 era stuff from the internet auction days--p3 hardware (video cards, scanners, drives, lots of speakers (creative/altec), etc..), unused software, unused cases, books, even a couple brand new computers. should i just throw it out? are you allowed to just put it in your garbage can? i doubt anyone would use this stuff so there probably isnt anywhere i could donate it is there?

Try to find an electronics recycling facility. You mind end up paying a little bit of money, but its worth it to know that it is being recycled properly.

isnt that what recycling companies do anyway, ship it off to another country to deal with it

Yes. As long as Americans don't see what happens after they get rid of their garbage they won't care who suffers. Everyone knows this.

i agree americans consume far too much junk, i wish id never gotten most of this stuff, i certainly had no use for it

If you don't want to put it on FST (which would probably get you at least shipping for most stuff), then I would just get a large box, dump it all in the box, set the box out on the curb and write "free" on it.

Still worth a shot, never know what someone might need or be willing to pay for. Doesn't really cost you anything but a little time to try before you dump it at a recycling center or Goodwill location.
