Sounds like a beefy storage server. Linux is always fun to do. HOme theater applications are even better.

I would, but the only OS X version is for PPC... :(

With linux you can practice networking a windows box and a linux box, mess around with coding and just tinkering, its like relearning windows all over. Now as a home theater tool, hook it up to a stereo, a tv and so forth and get some media fun going.

I'd never used a Mac or OS X before, and I wanted to try one. Everyone I know that has a Mac loves it.

Turns out, I, too, love mine. I really like OS X, and now that I've got the option to dualboot Windows on it, my desktop PC is basically only useful for gaming.

well, the desktop would be noisier (that's why i like cheap dell's), bigger, and the mini looks sleek as hell.

personally, i'd say looks is unimportant... but when you're in the dorms, the mac mini would be a great conversation piece.

Just because you have it doesn't mean you should think you should have to be doing something with it 24/7. Use it to back up all of your files from your new computer, set it up as an HTPC, use it to download really really big game demos, which can take several hours due to the current trend of being .5gb or more.

What happend to just turning it off?

YOu could just hibernate it if you don't want to wait for the boot ;)

It's been off for a couple weeks, for the most part. However, when I went to sleep I noticed the white noise from the fans was lacking and I couldn't sleep. ;)

Give it to your mom.

If she used her PC for anything more than email and solitaire, I would.

Anyways, I'm running F@H and seeding some Linux torrents for now. As for an HTPC, I don't have a TV, so if I want to watch the tube I just do so right on the PC (as I stated above). Both my desktop and my Mini are connected to my home audio receiver.

Thanks for the suggestions, all! Any more would be appreciated! :)
