Hey guys,

I bought a 500GB EVO on a BF deal for like $280 and it just arrived. My first plan was to put it in my main system and move the 840 PRO (250GB) to my laptop. But in testing the performance the EVO is a LOT slower than the 840 PRO.

seq read 354 v 520
write 249 v 503

etc...

Do you think I'll notice the drop? I will allow me to put more on my C drive, so I'll get more speed for docs, but it will be slower....

I'm leaning toward using it for the laptop....

thoughts?

Where do you need the space?

Stupid question... did you have the EVO hooked up to a SATA3 port when you did your testing?

You won't notice any speed difference between either outside of benchmarks.

I did my original test just to see if they were close. my Pro was on the Intel port and I'm guessing the EVO was on a different port with no 6GB or different drivers....but thanks to your notes, I went through it, cloned the drive (8 min). and booted. Only hitch with Acronis i needed to "bootrec /fixmbr" by hitting shift+F10 on the first screen of the win7 CD.

In the end it's all sorted. here are the results in case you too are looking to swap for a bigger drive.
