What should I do with a 1700+ and 2500+ sitting here?

Here is the situation:

I had my 1700+ running at 1750mhz(166x10.5)for 6 weeks fine. All of a sudden one day it started to lock on screensavers only, but when I put the 1700+ back to default settings it never froze. I figured something either happened to my machine or my bad luck had struck again. It frustrated me so I ordered a new Barton 2500+ for the heck of it. Well, the barton got here yesterday but before I put it in I decided to overclock my 1700+ to the 2500+'s speed (166x11) and it runs like a charm and 46c on full load. Should I even bother opening the retail package on my barton? When I first tried to overclock my 1700+ I tried 2ghz but it was unstable so maybe my chip is not up to it or maybe I should mess with the voltage. At any rate, I don't know what to do. I had planned on putting the Barton in about an hour (after work) but not I am not so sure.

I got the Barton from newegg and it is unopened like I said, do I just have to pay shipping to get it back to them with no extra charge?

Also, just a small note, on 3d scores:

1700+ (stock) w/ 3dmark2001se = 6969
1700+ (barton speed) w/ 3dmark2001se = 7024

What a small gain, very sad.

Possibly, but another reason I asked, and should have mentioned in the original post, is that my RAM will be the limiting factor in the long run. (PC2700 Hyper X) I don't think the gains that I could make with the Barton would be much more than the 1700+ pushed a tad harder. The real issue is probably my video card, wouldn't I be better served getting a newer video card for the best gains? Rereading this it sounds like I just answered my question but I am on the fence here with no real decision close to being made.

If you can make out the week and stepping on the 2500+ without opening it please LMK and if it's the right one I'll buy it off you ;)

That CPU should do 2.2-2.3ghz on default vcore, I wouldn't send it back.

Well, I am confused, my PC is rock solid stable in all tests at 166x11 but as soon as I go to 170x11 it gives me long beeps in intervals of 2 seconds and won't post. I think maybe my ram can't cut it.

Agreed. Sounds like you're running a GF3 class or lower card. I get 7787 max out of my 1.5Ghz Tbird and GF3Ti200
