What should I do with 2 cameras that are a little messed up during my trip? Options?

I had two cameras that both have some problems. I am trying to think what is the best option for me to get them fixed or anything?

One is a Canon SD 880 that turns out to Lens Error and the other is a Panasonic FS12 that has some sand in in it. Woud my best bet to take it to a shop or an authorized service center to get them repaired? Thanks!

Canon Loyalty Program
Would allow you to trade up to a new version and get a discount on it. I don't remember the details on it, but you should be able to find a lot on info on it by googling.

Sweet sounds promising thanks yoyo. But I was wondering if it would cost alot to fix the problems? Or would repair service be prohibitively expensive relatively?

Try tapping the Canon a few times or even moving the lens by hand. Soemtimes the lens error is just some dirt or grit interfering with lens movement.

I have no idea, but I mentioned the program in case you want to give up on repairing it ;)

I've had good luck with calling Canon with two broken cameras: 866-443-8002, option 2.

One incident they repaired a camera for free that was about 3 years past its warranty. With the other incident, they let me exchange the camera (about 4 years past its warranty) for a much better camera at half off the retail price. This latter upgrade was through their loyalty program, but you first have to call the warranty repair number above.

Sounds like great options fellas. One question though! If I try to open that camera would they be able to tell it was opened and use that as an excuse to void my warranty if I do have warranty or extended warranty either through Canon or credit card?

I was goign to buy that Panasonic too but I saw on Amazon reviews that alot of them have problems with leaking or whatnot right off the getgo. So I was a little worried. =P

I should try this... I have an S400 that's crapping out on me (screen's going bad, takes images with giant streaks going across them 75% of the time, etc...).

I would recommend you calling canon and provide them with your sd880 S/N, and then they will offer you a refur. sd line camera like their newer sd line.

Here's an update on what is available as of Jan 20, 2010. I just traded my A640 for a. . .

SX110 @ $129 + tax(ny) and shipping $10.
Other options were the. . .
A1000 IS @ $79 or . .
SD1100 IS @ $99

From speaking with the CSR tech that this offer is applicably to all the A series cameras, and any S or SD series camera at a minimum is eligible for a . . .
SD970 @ $189
or a
G10 @ $249

The SD1100 was consistent at the same price regardless of the originating model.
