What should I do for a job in college

Well I dont know what to do to make money 🙁. My checking account is starting to get low (school bank) and I need a job thats preferably low hours, so I can um... study 😉. I already applied at BB like the first 3 weeks in as part time, but was offered seasonal work which starts right before Thanksgiving. I said no because I would only work for 3 weeks before Christmas break and thats not long enough. Have been a cashier before and hate doing it, please give some suggestions.

I have thought of Donating Plasma, it pays $70 a week. $30 the first visit, $40 the second. All I do is sit there for an hour or 2 and do homework. Now this is Duluth, so I cant be doing any sort of construction and anything outdoors because it gets cold as hell up here in the winter. Sugestions please.

Is it considered donating if you get paid for it???

Make pizzas, work as a waiter, work at a gas station...there are lots of options if all you need is some extra cash.

If you live in the dorms, could you get work doing something for housing? I worked in one of the campus restaurant/cafeteria dealies, and it was great. I made good money for making nachos, tacos, subs and pizzas. It was a great working environment (it was really clean and the job was actually really easy), and they worked around my schedule.

I also knew people who would work at the front desk for dorms. They just sorted mail and stuff, and could do homework whenever there wasn't anything to do.

i worked at an afterschool program for an elementary school

hours were constant and resonable, all you gotta do is play with kids!

pay was crap tho

Apply to stock shelves, or (gasp) work in the pharmacy or photo dept (and be a cashier probably) at your local drug store perhaps?
Usually the pharmacy techs make a few bucks more then miminum, and the photo techs make about 50s to a buck an hour less then them. Just an idea....

You can be a human lab rat. Sometimes they get paid a lot for not much work.
Donate plasma, blood, sperm <j/k>.... (but not a good option)

Get a temp job at a reputable temp agency ($$ plus you make the hours, but you probably need to commute)
Get a work-study job on campus (a little less money than temp, but you get very flexible hours and no need to commute)

If possible, get a job working for your university's athletic dept. You'd be surprised how little you do and the amount of free clothing and apparel you will get. I work for UConn athletics (hockey teams) and take home a decent chunk of change for a student.

How about you just get whatever job pays the bills. Suck it up and work retail/fast food. It's probably your best bet for a flexible schedule until you can start getting internships.

work school IT support...wouldn't believe how much perfectly funcational hardware gets chucked in the trash

Most school positions that would be available arent going to work for a few reasons. I only get paid if I am on loans or have some sort of scholarship, I would be doing work for no pay. That meens I cant work at the cafeteria, library or any other school job. I dont know about the athletic job, but if I could work with the hockey team 😀 that would be sweet, we are playing UoM this weekend, and if I could get payed to help the team, sweet.

Coop job can pay a couple times what regular college kid jobs do and is valuable experience. Paid internship/coop work is the best by far.

that was me, i worked there all four years in was in college. we sorted mail, took maintenance requests, we were information central, etc. nothing exciting happened, except when fire alarms went off.

being that we were 24 hours, midnight - 6am shifts were excruciating. it wasn't bad - the shifts broke down to try to work around people's schedules, and the work was easy. i would study, or we had computers, so i'd be on AIM or other random websites.

my sister works in the library.

Wait until you get out of college.

You'll find the jobs you WANT aren't the jobs you will GET.

Even at this level, you don't just decide what job you want and expect to get it. Like I said, suck it up and take the job that fits your time frame.

ha, your school too eh?
what kinds of things do they throw away?

Our school ditches good working CRT monitors quite a bit. (probably when the departments get LCD upgrades) They also ditch low end P3s, 450, 500, etc. Kinda sad when you think about it.

I worked at the school's snack bar claening tables and doing late night clean-up. Pay was minimal, but the scenery was pretty nice sometimes. I only had to work about 1 to 2 hours out of each shift. The rest of the time I could watch TV or get some studying done in the employee lounge.
