im going to be on around a $2000 budget when i build my PC this fall. im gettin all the money in one lump sum at one time. anyway, i should be gettin the money early sept.

before i post the setup i plan on.. first i propose a few questions:

will the real world performance of a serial ATA drive be that much greater than a WD special edition? if so, when could i expect for a serial ATA drive and mobo to be available?

now heres the rig:

preferably intel chipset mobo that supports AGP8x, DDR400, lan, creative onboard audio - ~$175 or less
2.4B Ghz pent4 (after price drops) - $193
512mb DDR400 ram - ~$200
256mb radeon 9700 (possibly from 3rd party) - ~$400
120gb WD special edition - $170
16x lite on DVD drive - $40
40x12x48x lite on cd burner - $66
cheiftec server case - ~$75
antec 430w true power supply - $73
19" flat screen CRT - ~$300
logitech Z540 speakers - $57
leadtek winfast 2000/XP tv tuner - $64
intellimouse - $30
keyboard - $15
floppy - $8
20 piece tool kit - $18
windows XP pro - free

TOTAL: 1884

i also have a question... with that DDR400 ram, i could overclock the FSB of my system up to the 533 the processor runs @ right?
i also am about the oposite of an audiophile, but i do want clear MP3's and nice bass. also quality DVD sound.. and i hear the onboard creative sound is pretty good. i dont think i need an audigy or a sound blaster live! 5.1

any and all suggestions would be appreciated. let me know what you would change and why.

Looks good to me. Serial ata drives and mobos are coming out sometime this fall from what I have heard. Not sure what the performance is like compared to ata100 or ata 133 though. How are you getting a 256mb radeon 9700 for $400? The 128mb 9700 cost about $400 itself.
