What should I build my mp3 player in?

I decided that the trashcan is too big and cumbersome. Also, I got a microatx psu from Fry's. Anyone have any ideas for a case?

I want to use a toolbox but I can't find one in the right size. It's a VIA 6" square mobo, PSU, and full size 3.5" hard drive (needs shock protection, using foam). Maybe I could make one out of plexiglass? I've heard of some substance that dissolves the plexiglass and recombines it, allowing you to bond together two pieces seamlessly. It's meant for PVC I believe but I've never seen it in a store.

Nice case.

thanks 🙂

although, at the moment its nothing special-- just a clear cube with things scrwed to the sides. one day i'll make a nicer one.

plexiglass is cool-- and the PVC bonding stuff works but i'm not sure where you can buy it either.

I never understood how these car computer mp3 players worked... how do you get the mp3s onto the computer once it's in the car? Also how do you open up an mp3 playing program w/ no monitor???

Wireless would be my best guess.

One of my friends who did it put the mp3s on the hard drive he was going to put in the computer to put in his car and put it in. He bought one of those little 5" gamecube displays to use as his monitor and he's got a keypad in between the front seats to put in the number of the song he wants to listen to (he wrote some program in VB to handle it all). It's a pretty sweet setup, custom steel and plexiglass case.

The VIA mobo has a network port. I can connect it to the network, or I can just take out the hard drive. Winamp autoruns at boot. Right now it doesn't work well because there's no way to switch playlists, but my friend (radioactiveballpoint) is making a Winamp plugin that will let you select a playlist by pressing a number on the keypad.
