What should be done to a car to make it as "like new" as possible.

I'm flying to pick up a car I'm getting off ebay........it's being driven 800 miles back.

Mechanically, to get the car as best as possible I assume I should:

Have it checked for major issues, and repair them if they are there.
Flush/Drain/Change All fluids
Tuneup
Alignment if it's horrible

Is there any other thing I should have done in the state where I pick it up?

Cosmetics and detailing can be handled once it's back home with me.

Brakes, belts, hoses, plugs & wires, cap and rotor if it's not electronic, tires (rotate/balance make sure allignment and inflation is proper first), oil/air/fuel filters, pcv system, flush coolant, check brake/PS/transmission/differential fluids, check under side of car for rust and make sure CV boots aren't torn. Lube necessary joints. You might want to carfax and check for evidence of odometer roll back and foul engine swaps if you haven't already.

You can get new car air fresheners in tree or bottle form.

I'm not a car guy so I can't help, but I am very curious as to what compelled you to fly to get a car from eBay and drive it back (so far!). Is it some collector car or something?

If you are really picky, have the engine bay cleaned. so it shiny... but that would "hide" any leaking oil signs etc.......
