Let's see...our constitution says "United States of America" on top, instead of "Pakistan" or "Luxembourg" or "Congo...no wait, Zaire....no, Congo"

why do you say "hmm..." in all your summaries? are you trying to be like philosophical or something? trying to impress us with your mighty brain and your real-world views? Communist.

capability.

I've been to other countries, and socially, I don't see any major differences (weight, sure, but France and Germany have just as many right-wing freaks as the US does, and like the US, the average citizen doesn't resemble the stereotypes portrayed by their governments).

but in this day and age, if a right-wing war hawk got elected in Spain, all of his passion still wouldn't give him the capability to launch two wars without the support of other countries.

I think it's the chance for opportunity.

Despite the world complaining that we're fat, lazy, overpriced, war-mongering, etc. everyone else still wants to come here, buy our crap, and be one of us.

Why? Because we have the freedom to do (or not do) whatever the hell we want. That's opportunity at it's best (and it's all the other crap it at it's worst).

Uhh Canada has just as much oppurtunity as the USA.

Your acting like america is the ONLY free country in the world, give it a break. I think alot of Americans, not all, just have a general disrespect for other cultures and nations and don't care enough to learn anything beyond the stereotypes, and Americans have given themselves a bad name because if it.

We do? "Freedom" in the USA is largely an illusion; it is an ideal taught to children, yet it lacks real substance.

more, actually (in terms of freedom). is that a good thing? depends who you ask.

*AAAAEEEEE* your all wrong

its borders. the uniter states of america is seperated from other countries by borders.

interesting enough borders are a recent thing in the history of man. i think it was france and germany that declared the first borders in 1800 something, from there it took off as the 'thing to have'.

my philosphy teacher said once it wasnt sadam killing his own people, it was borders forced on a country devided, he(sadam) never thought of them(what where they called? had chem warfare after effects on a whole race which is now genetically passed on to there children - horrible indeed) as 'his people' but they were in 'his borders'. which some what carries over to israel-palistein issue we have right... now.

No you guys are all wrong..
What makes US special and the center of attention is that we have all the media and movies. All the popular songs are mostly from US. All the movies are made in US. All the media comes from US. Thus US is the center of the world. Thus english is the most important and standard language in the world.

So speaks the typical blinkered, uneducated American.

Movies are made all over the world, British and Canadian music is far superior to most American music according to the rest of the world (and a fair few Americans). Oh and btw think about it English = England i.e. the country it originated in Not America in other words.

no sh!t movies are made all around the world.. but do people in britain watch movies from korea? Do people in china watch movies from mexico? NO! So before you call me uneducated, get a damn clue yourself.

The fact is the entire world watches movies from America, and listens to music from America.
No doubt that other countries have great music too. I listen to Frou Frou(britain), U2(finland), and they are popular, but American bands are still by far the most widely listened music around the world, just like the movies.
Also do you british sitcoms worldwide like FRIENDS?

Posts like that just prove how little you know.

U2 are from Ireland btw, theres also this little known movement called World Cinema which you obviously haven't heard of, so yes people in Britain do watch movies from Korea, China, Mexico, France, Germany etc. etc.

British Sitcoms wordwide ok you've obviously never heard of Red Dwarf (totally destroyed when they tried to Americanise it, and before you go off on me at that one it was American people who said they destroyed it and the British original was much superior), not to mention Cold Feet and numerous others...

British and French movies etc are watched all over the world including in America, I guess you've never heard of Four Weddings and a Funeral or The Full Monty? I could go on...

Yes some American music is great but a lot of the stuff in your charts is complete and utter crap (though I have to admit it's like that the world over), there's also a lot of great British, Irish, Australian bands and many more.

Again you need to remove your blinkers there's a whole wide world out there and it's not called America...

Yes you can argue that anyone may watch films from anywhere around the world, but they are not popular and do not get widely known, which is what seperates non-American films from American films.
The FACT IS that Hollywood films are widely known around the world. Yes there are occaisional foreign films that are critically acclaimed and do get widely known, such as life is beautiful, but those are much more rare than your average Hollywood film. You cannot deny that.

Also I never said american music is great and foreign music is not. In fact I state that a few of my favorite bands that are non-american. The fact is that american bands are usually more widely known than non american bands. C'mon, how many people around the world know the no talent assclown Britney Spears compared to something like Portishead from Britain?

Again, you need to see reality, and stop being ignorant.

he didnt say "what makes the US special" or "why does the US get so much attention" he said "what seperates america and other countries around the world" search some of the other posts the OP has posted and quickly learn hes full of BS(in not so many words).

you think arguing about who has the best bands/movies is an educated coversation? please see my post...

I don't understand why people think I am arguing about who have the best bands and movies. I am stating that america has the most widely known media, which is what makes it stand out compared to other countries, which is what I thought that is what the OP is asking?

eh, sorry for the misunderstanding. you came right off the bat as 'america = best'. but the question is literally "what seperates america and other countries around the world" if you read the OP other posts they are similarly retarded.

everybody else jumped into "well we have this, and we have that" but they are going into why america is seperated like it is from other countries and not literally(like the question implies, or should) what seperates. its the OP's fault really, all he has for actual text is "??", im thinking english isnt his first language.

its really a simple question thats getting outer reaching responses. it throws most of us off who have had to deal with the 'america sucks'/'no americas great' debates. in short, its all the OP's fault.
