You think you can hold your liquor

State police say they arrested a man early Tuesday whose blood alcohol level was 0.491 percent ? the highest ever recorded in Rhode Island for someone who wasn't dead.

After police arrived, Kobierowski had trouble getting out of the car, then grabbed it and refused to move, forcing troopers to carry him to the breakdown lane before taking him back to their barracks,

A breath test showed blood alcohol readings of 0.489 percent, followed by 0.491

The legal limit in Rhode Island is 0.08. A level of 0.30 is classified as stupor, 0.4 is comatose and 0.5 is considered fatal

That will end up being the most powerful hangover in history

The guy is probably an alcoholic. If it was a normal person, he/she would have probably been dead.

Its the percent of your blood that is actually alcohol. .1 means .1 % of your blood is alcohol.

.35 is lethal in non-alcoholics, and that time you were spinning so bad the world looked like the film skipped off the projector, you were probably only .18 - .2

.5 WOW!

(100% fail)

For BAC, .1 is .1%. If it were 10%, well, good lord, people would be bleeding you to try to get drunk themselves.

Let this be a lesson to us all - alcoholism has its advantages.

i'm an er doc, i've seen much higher than 491. 500 certainly isn't 'fatal' as the article says.

This absolutely depends on your metabolism, height/weight, and age... "doc". .35 can shut down pulmonary function for good in an average adult male. In the Er you are probably only dealing with alkies.

Back to med school with you!

No. If this guy had the good sense to get smashed out of his gourd and take a taxi or walk, I'd echo your sentiments. The second that he got behind the wheel, he ceases being in the "wow, I want to party with that guy!" category and moves into the "what a fucking douchebag" category. It's a good thing no one was hurt.

There's nothing heroic about drunk driving, unless you happen to be getting laid by a cheerleading squad while you do it.
