I currently have a 2 camera system at my house and I cant stand running the system through a PC. I was looking at the Swann unit at Costco ( its on sale) and was thinking about going this route with a standalone DVR system. I am not to sure about the quality of the cameras, I only need them to view 30ft away, front and back of the house.

This is the Costco unit

I was also told about the Logitech cameras

Overall, I am looking at a system that can record through a DVR set up and has decent night vison cameras.

Thanks

I have no recommendations for you but I would like to know what you find unacceptable about running the system through a PC. Just wondering if there is some problem I am not considering in my own research.

A lot of those DVR systems can suck more power usage than a small basic PC. If energy cost is a concern, maybe get an Atom-based PC dedicated to the task?

i'm running 2 cameras externally and use a dedicated pc for the dvr. it's in the basement and i have access thru superdvr to my computer upstairs. i check and delete the videos daily so as not to fill up the hard drive.

pretty happy with the setup.
