Hmm... trying 800x600. Very interesting, everything is huge... I could get used to this.

Living room workstation: 1280x1024x24@72
Bedroom workstation: 800x600x24@75
Server: 80x25x4@unknown (text)

All of these monitors are capable of higher resolutions, but only at 60 Hz. I prefer not to stare at a fvcking strobe light all day. ;)

1280x1024@85 on a 19" Dell P991 (FD Trinitron) CRT.

One of the best 19" CRTs ever made IMHO.

I like 1024, but it's just too damn small for me (I have a 17" monitor", and sit back when I type.) and I really rather strain my eyes, and then need glasses.. Yet, 800 is sooo big. I wish they has one in-between.

Now, for gaming and what not, I def prefer 1028, but for daily browsing, and IRC I need 800.

If you use powerstrip you can set your monitor to any resolution you want. When I was running a 21" diamondtron iiyama I had it set to 1440x1080@81hz. Only way to do it though is through powerstrip. You can easily set your monitor to something between 800x600 and 1024x768. I'd reccomend if you can to keep it to a 4:3 aspect ratio. When I ran my 21" monitor at 1280x1024 images looked a little wierd, they looked great at 1440x1080 though.
Now I have a 19" LCD. It's nice but it's max res is 1280x1024. Kinda miss that little extra resolution the 21" iiyama was capable of.

1280x960. I don't know why everyone uses 1280x1024, wtf is the point? It's unproportional. Use 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768, 1152x864, 1280x964, 1600x1200, 1920x1440... Proportional resolutions. :)

That said, I use 1280x960x32 with a 15" Optiquest V55 monitor and 32MB TNT2 video card. Right now I'm running WinXP Pro and I use ClearType font smoothing, very nice! I also sit back when I type/read. I don't see what the problem is with 1024 on a 17" monitor... 800 seems too big on my 15", so how could you possibly use that on a 17" or bigger? Yuck!
