i'm looking into buying a scanner and if possible it could be less than 100 dollars. I mainly want it to scan docs and pics. What scanners out there are good and which ones of these don't give any trouble under win2k?
thanks

I just purchased one of the more expensive Epson scanners for my Win2K machine at work (the 1640SU Photo) and I've been very pleased. No problems whatsoever and I tried both the SCSI and USB connections. I think the prices on the 1240U model just dropped into the $125 range (a new 1250 is about to be released).

Good luck and be sure to look carefully at the reviews. Sometimes the lower priced scanners can be just fine for photos yet have lousy text and line art scanning.

A new 1250 is about to be released? No kidding. What's new on it? (I just bought a 1640SU for myself)

Lore,

Of all things I stumbled on it at the NECX Direct site here. Looks very nice for a lower end scanner, I must say. The Photo version is only $149. Couldn't find anything on it at the Epson USA site, but they tend to say nothing until the last minute.

I'm really enjoying the 1640SU Photo . This is my first Epson scanner after years of Microtek.

I have a Visioneer 4400 USB Scanner I picked up at Staples for $9 after rebates a few months back, and it works flawlessly under Windows 2000, and with my Pagis Pro Scanning Suite. :)

I'm have a Visioneer OneTouch 8100 with crappy OneTouch/PaperPort software. Don't get this one. Do you guys know if I can use other software with my scanner?
