How often do you use the scanner? How good is the quality? I am thinking about getting one soon.

I'm in the same boat. Have never had a need for one but now have some pictures I really need to preserve/store digitally and I'd like good quality but don't want to spend more than around $100.

Agfa 1212u which I have used once.

Wish I had a better scanner such as a Canon or Epson Perfection series, esp one with a 35mm adapter.

Umax, but (a) the crappy software crashes every so often -and- (b) they now charge for driver / software updates unless you can find them on their UK website.

I'd say for everyday use buy some Hot Deals free / cheap scanner, and for something like scanning old photos get an Epson. For slides and negative BTW you need something really high-end to get photo-quality scans since the image is so much smaller than a print.

None here, but FWIW, I bought my mom an Epson Perfection 1200 a few years ago. It was great then and I think it's still impressive today.

Visioneer 8100. I picked up one free after rebate after getting a tip from the Hot Deals forum.

I use it a few times a month. It's really fast but the quality of the scan isn't that great.

eh, i have the same scanner from the same deal. i use it for rebate purposes and it actually does quite a nice job of it. the only problem i have is that i recently went from win98 -> win2k and it seems to have driver issues.
