What Saddam has to do to avoid war and remain in power

Saddam needs only to really, totally, and completely give up all his weapons of mass destruction to avoid a war.

It doesn't take hundreds of inspectors running around the country. It should take a few hours in a parking lot with a half dozen inspectors.

Saddam needs only to lay out all the weapons and bring the inspectors to them.

"And over here on your right you'll see 30,000 chemical warheads stacked in crates, and over on your left you'll see hundreds of drums full of biological agents. On the other side of the street we've got all the documents that we have been hiding in private homes and haven't shared with you before about how even as recently as yesterday we were making new WMD in hidden facilities you didn't know about."

"Oh, here is a map to all the hidden bunkers out in the desert that no one knows about, that is where we make all this stuff. You'll find 800 scientests in the building across the street along with their familes, they have been working on this stuff for the past 20 years, airplanes are waiting at the airport to allow you to take all of them including all their familes out of the country, talk to them as long as you like, about whatever you want."

That's it, that is all it would take.

Saddam does that and he gets off the hook.

What amazes me is that for how focused on survival he is, he doesn't do this. Those WMD won't do him any good against our military anyway.

So in other words: You don't give a sh!t about the people there, if he tortures them to death for the next few decades as well. If he were to publically destroy all weapons down to the smallest fruit knife, he'd still be a dictator. We have far better chances of arranging destruction of those weapons with a new government, just get rid of the present one first.

Edit: And we have a better chance of removing all the current people if we wouldn't start by dropping bombs on anything that might serve as military target, but instead go in and take them out with special forces. But of course then we can't test new weapons, so that most likely won't happen.

No, I personally want him removed, no matter what.

I'm just saying what Bush will accept, not what I would accept.

Read my words: Saddam can do nothing! If tomorrow he threw everything he had in a pile and said, "Here ya go!", Bush would still push to get rid of him. Saddam knows it, Bush knows it. The only reason Bush is making these statements is to garner support from his allies, nothing more.

"...wow that was easy... no one has a clue about twice the amount I am still hiding in the caves... now when the inspectors are gone I can take 'em out and start working on it again. I already have scientists that just got out of school and did internships at the WMD facilities. Bwahahahaha...

LOL 😀

You'd hope that the 800 scientists would menition all that...

In any case, if Saddam really wanted to disarm, he wouldn't keep all that.

Realistically, that is not plausible. Any declaration that Saddam makes, anyone on this planet (Bush) can say it is incomplete, plz hand over a "more" complete list. There is no way you can substantiate it. If Saddam has 1000 hidden bunkers and hands over 950 of them, you'd think it would be complete whereas it would not. However, if Saddam has only 10 hidden bunkers, and declares all 10, you'd think it were incomplete whereas in reality it would be complete. And I seriously doubt that the scientists would spill any info. It is in their best interest not to tell anything, because the first thing thats going to be bombed is their workplace.

Also realistically, Saddam would use the fact that declaration is implausible to hide away just a few WMD from the declaration, or maybe some blueprints (as his son-in-law defector said) and molds.

IMO, the best way to "verify" the declaration is to continue with the surveillance, aerial and ground, with regular but unannounced inspections @ the plants. It is very difficult to impossible to make WMD without a huge load of heavy equipment (and no mustard gas IMO does not count as a chemical WMD). If Saddam is caught with any unauthorized weapons, then there should be a war. However, the UN resolution 1441 is so poorly worded (and vague), that it fails to do so. It just says if Saddam is in violation, there needs to be ANOTHER resolution passed to determine what happens in the case of a violation.

Saddam has been caught with unauthorized weapons. Missiles that go to far. And a drone.

geez, Grasshopper, you need to give ATOT a break with all these Iraq threads that you started. Now i know that Bush is not the only one who is obsessed about this 😉
