Ok, I am gonna be pretty simple.

I didn`t have a place to stay.
So I found this room in a 4 bedroom apt.
When I signed the lease and everything, they didn`t give me a condition report to fill and sign.
Now I moved out of there, and they sent me a bill for $200.
Friends say I can threaten them for sueing because they dont have my signature on the condition report.
Is this true?

P.S. I didn`t know about condition reports because it was my first time in U.S.

Thanks!

If your name isn't on the condition report you have 0 legal liability.
Tell them to STFU and get their heads out of their asses

thanks, i know the owner the house is a dickhead, a druggie, everything and etc. and whenever we called them to get something fixed, like refrigerator, they always ignored us. can these also be good defense? and last question, the bill that they sent me had a copy of the re-carpeting bill. they didnt renew the carpet when we moved in, and it was in horrible condition. so why recarpet and charge it to us? these people are just sick.

I.O.U. = I Owe You // more or less a worthless piece of paper that says that you owe someone money.

If the name in your profile is your real name, it is quite interesting.
Where do your ancestors come from?

It's interesting to me because I can usually tell where a surname came from.
I guess I am unfamiliar with Turkish names.
This has nothing to do with you or your family personally. It has been kind of a hobby of mine since I worked in Brooklyn, Queens, etc. and met so many people whose names were so unfamiliar to me.

I meant absolutely no offense.

Yeah, no kidding. If they can't show you a document saying that you are responsible for any damages and they try to make you pay, you should tell them that you aren't showing them the document that says they should give you 4523462563546245621456256 dollars for being cool, and then try and make them pay.

Seriously, if you plan to stay in the states what you should do is contact a low cost attorney, (your college may have such a service, especially if it has a law school) and show him everything you've signed with these people. See what he says. It sounds like you're dealing with a company instead of an individual slumlord. You should at least make it more expensive than $200 to get you to pay. I have lived in college towns my whole life and have seen the carpet trick make a lot of money off of college students.

In the future, when you move into a dumpy apartment take pictures of everything that is damaged before you move in. Get the pictures developed and mail the pictures to yourself in a sealed envelope. That way, when the sharks take you to court you can pull out the pictures in the sealed envelope (the postage mark shows the date they were sent) show that they are trying to rip you off and win the case and counter sue for the frivolous lawsuit.

Yeah, no kidding. If they can't show you a document saying that you are responsible for any damages and they try to make you pay, you should tell them that you aren't showing them the document that says they should give you 4523462563546245621456256 dollars for being cool, and then try and make them pay.

It's called a "Lease"

Eep! You got me there. That was meant to mean the document that states the condition of the apartment before you move in.
