What?s the best place to plug in fans?

I?m building my first rig and have a question about where to plug the fans. Here?s what I bought:

Case: Antec PlusView 1000AMG
Mobo: Gigabyte GA-8KNXP
PSU: Antec TrueBLUE480
Fans: CoolerMaster 80mm fans (x5)

The Antec case holds 5 fans and I bought 5 coolermaster fans so they would all be the same (and removed the two Antec fans it came with). The Antec power supply has a 3-wire plug for the mobo fan sensor and two 4-wire "fan only" plugs. The Gigabyte GA-8KNXP has 3 places to plug fans; one for the CPU fan (obviously), one labeled Power Fan and one labeled System Fan.

I plugged the 3-wire fan monitor wire from the Antec power supply into the Power Fan plug on the mobo. I plugged the two rear case fans into the power supply Fan Only plugs which I assume will be controlled by the fan monitor from the mobo. I plugged the remaining 3 fans (2 front and 1 side) into the System Fan plug on the mobo.

I haven?t turned the rig on yet (I?m waiting for my memory to arrive tomorrow :( ). Did I hook the fans up correctly or is there a better way? Thanks in advance,

If they all have power, you're set! I guess the only advantage to having them plugged into the mobo headers is you can read the fan speed in Windows. I'm not familiar with that PS but I would guess that the fans plugged into it will not report their speed. So, plug the ones into the mobo headers that you want to read fan speed from. Do you really care about the speed of the fan in the PS? As a safety thing, you can have MBM alert you if a fan fails.

I would plug the CPU fan into the CPU fan motherboard header and the rest of the case fans onto the Fan Only lead, unless you want maximum performance. Using the Fan Only lead will undervolt the fans and adjust them accordingly to system temperature, usually in the area of 5-7V.

If you want maximum performance, I would plug the rest of the fans into the PSU itself as it would draw less power from the motherboard potentially causing less problems.

Thanks for the feedback. I hadn?t considered that adding the fans to the mobo would draw more power from the mobo. (that makes sense). I?ll try to plug 3 of them all into the PSU fan plugs and see if I can monitor them through the PSU sensor to the mobo. That will only have 2 of them taxing the mobo.

How do you tell the airflow direction on the Coolermaster fans? The Antec?s have an arrow on them but the Coolermaster just has a logo on one side and nothing on the other. I guess I?ll just have to plug them in and see. Thanks again.
