see poll:

i realise that there was a similar poll a while back (caught a reference to it in another thread), but i can't find it and it will be interesting (for me at least) to see how used resolutions are evolving by contrasting with past polls.

have fun.

1680x1050

can run HL2 and GTA:SA happily at 1680, but new games like FEAR and Armed Assault will dictate an upgrade to a 7800GT as soon as the ATI performance mainstream part arrives so i don't get raped on the price.

i can't see how to edit a poll, but it would be handy if a mod could add the option for 1280x768 for all those using LCD-TV type screens.

it would be really really appreciated if it could be added between 1280x800 and 1024x768 too..........?

cheers.

11x8(17" crt has only 60hz at 12x10)
votesd 10x7 since many games dont allow 11x8.

so you would say that you play most games at 10x7, but those which allow it you play at 11x8......? fair enough.

thanks.

Well, 1920x1200, game allowing, if not, 1600x1200.
When I had a CRT, I ran games at 1280x1024 max, since I didn't notice the difference so drastically as going off native resolution on LCDs.

I use several different ones depending on the game:
Most new games: 1280x960
New games with HDR: 1024x768
HL2 and most older games: 1600x1200
A few other older games: 2048x1536
Ancient games that can't do anything higher: 640x480

at the max resolution of my 19" CRT @ 85hz - 11x8 for older games [with lotsa AA/AF] and 10x7 for the newest more 'demanding' games.

and you can edit your polls ;)

1464x1100 (When custom resolutions are allowed), otherwise 1400x1050. My 930SB loses some sharpness when the vertical goes over 1100.

I game at the highest resolution I can get respectable performace at, unless you are limited by your monitor that seems to be the best way to do it.

Depends on the game. I run most at 1024x768, but here's some exceptions.

Battlefield 2: 320x240
Battlefield 1942: 800x600
Deus Ex: 1152x768 or some odd resolution like that.
Deus Ex 2: 800x600
The Marathon Trilogy: 1600x800

there are a lot of TFT gamers judging by how many people have chosen 1280x1024.

I'm sure there are, but you would be supprised at how many people ron 1280x1024 on a CRT.

You play at this level? wow.
I tried HL2 at level res (using onboard video) and had to stop, though it ran real smooth.

1600x1200...Ronin, which 21" crt were you using that would do 2048x1536?? Interested in upgrading...Thanks

1280x1024 has been the standard 1280 resolution instead of 1280x960 for as long as I can remember, even back when 4:3 CRT monitors were completely standard. CRT manufacturers have always had only 1280x1024 in their recommended resolution lists. I think someone made a mathematical error with this at some point and the rest of the world has been following that ever since. :p The 17" and 19" LCDs were probably made 5:4 in order to support this resolution, not the other way around.

It depends on the game and on the rig. For my current rig:

Middling/old titles :- 1856x1392 with 16xAF and 6xAA.
New titles :- 1600x1200 with 16xAF and 0xAA.
