I have noticed that a lot of amish women dress that way.

And I think it is because they make all of their own clothes.

From experience, Alot of fundamental baptists wear that. They don't approve of women wearing slacks or pants, so they wear skirts. Also skirts cannot be above the knee more than an inch and often times they dont like to show any leg whatsoever, so they wear those long jean skirts because its also cheap and non flashy. I betcha 9 times out of 10, if you see a group of teenage girls in long jean skirts, just talk to one of them and they are a church group or know each other from church and are baptist.

Another good person to ask this to is TheBlonde1. :)

Do they also have really really long hair, no jewelry, and usually tennis shoes?
If so, you are looking at UPC - United Pentacostal Chruch.

They are somewhat of a "fringe" branch of Christanity (I only say that because they do not consider other groups to be "Christian.") - they believe that a woman should not cut her hair, should not have adornments (jewelry) and should not wear pants. They don't have to wear denim specifically, but most (especially younger) of the women do for non-formal occasions.

i think you hit it on the head. I never notice them unless they were denim, since i'm not a big denim person. It draws my attention.

I know what you mean! I was friends w/ a UPC girl in college, but I just never noticed! D'oh!

Ok, weird but true story to follow:
This girl lived in the dorm one floor above me. She and one of her friends came down and flirted heavily w/ one of my roomates and I on a couple of occasions. They were both pretty decent looking and cool, but we were both dating people at the time. Well, years go by, I forget all about it. I end up marrying my roomate's sister. Now, their parents used to be part of the UPC and we get this card from one of their cousins saying how he has just gotten engaged to a girl from Columbus that he met at a UPC convention. He's coming to town to visit her and they wanted to come by.
Yep, same chick. He had dropped her name, so I had put 2 and 2 together, but you should have seen her eyes pop out of her head when she walked in to meet the extended in-laws and this guy that she tried to pick up in the dorm is sitting there.
    Priceless.

Yeah, Petacostal women are required to wear dresses/skirts.

Although, the description also fits with most Polygamist's wives/daughters here in Utah.

Yes, and if they were wearing shirts with hoods and/or wigs, that's likely what they are.

    NO THEY ARE NOT MORMONS!!!

Mormanism makes no reference to clothing other than under garments.

    ...unless they are Polygamists.

They normally have long hair(usually blonde) and wear less than appealing shirts and skirts. They are normally dressed VERY unsexily.

    Pentacostal it is.

I remember back in the late 70's that the church gave in to pressure from the young'uns and the changing times and allowed them to wear denim. Before that, denim was banned. Many parents at the time still wouldn't let their kids wear it.

    Werk,

hoods and wigs are indeed worn by the older women. However, the youth often don't practice this..........

Pentacostal. Though other fundamental churches of different denominations may practice the same. BTW, they don't always wear denim....Khaki sometimes. I wonder what their pjs look like.
