I'm not sure if this is the right forum to ask, but I'm going back home for the summer and the only connection available at home is only dialup and I currently have just a NIC and wanted to buy a hardware modem. Any recommendations?
USR's internal "Performance Pro" modem is the way to go if you want a PCI card. Can't go wrong with an external modem though (not USB). I'm quite partial to my 3Com Courier, but they're a bit expensive.
In that case USR's Performance Pro modem is a good route to take since it's less expensive than an external modem and it's not a soft/controllerless modem. In fact, I think it's the only hardware-based PCI modem out there.
