What reason do I have for keeping my current credit card and not switching?

Card I have now..

Chase.
Mastercard.
3% rebate on gas.
1% rebate on everything else.
Unlimited rebates

One I want to switch to:

Citi.
Visa.
5% rebate on gas and groceries and drugstores
1% cash back on everything else.
Up to $300 a year rebates.

APR makes no difference to me because I don't carry a balance.

How about if I used the Citibank one until I hit the $300 in rebates then switch back to the Chase one..

But I doubt I would ever make it to $300 in rebates anyway since I usually only spend $500 - $600 a month.

Any reason NOT to go to the Citibank card?

CitiBank also has one time use cc's (like MBNA does).

Chase credits your % rebates immediately which is nice, CitiBank you wait until you charge $10,000 then you get a $100 check via snail mail.

Your Credit Score and FICO

If you had that credit card for 5 years lets say thats 5 years of history, you switch you now loose those 5 years and now your history doesnt include those 5 years whether bad or good years.

Say, this is an OT question to the original poster:

Does Chase have free online account access and payments?

(I keep getting CC offers from Chase, some of which include rebates for gas and other purchases, and I'd apply if I can set up manual online payments from my non-Chase checking account.)

Thanks.

Yes, chase has free online payments. It's how I do it.

I have it linked to my checking account at a different bank.

So what if I switch cards and just leave the other one open instead of closing it?

oops..

ment month.

Quick question do either of the cards carry an annual fee? I've always just gone with no annual fee whatever card the bank gives me. But with all the rewards and cash back stuff that goes around now I'm tempted to get one as long as there is no fee.

chase is such a b*tch about this point. i have a chase platinum and they only give you the choice of EITHER receiving a paper statement OR having an online statement. so if you get a paper statement, you can't view your statement online unless you pay for their bill management center or whatever.

two months ago i switched back to paper, and i received it. but i NEVER received this past month's statement, and because i was on paper, they would NOT let me view the statement online. i just wanted to see what the finance charge for the month but nooooooo.

but yes i pay it online for free.

i only complain because my other cards all let me view my statements online (past for a certain amount of months plus current) along with receiving a paper statement.

CitiBank - No annual fee

Chase - $19 annual fee is WAIVED the first year and every year after that as long as you make at least 9 purchases a year
