I am trying to select 1 GB of memory to run dual channel (2x 512) with my computer. I am confused reading all the posts on this MB with a P4 3.0C. I would like to get the best overclock possible but from what I read, getting PC 4000 or above may be a waste of money as the 3.0 C is not capable of as high an overclock as a 2.4C. The more I read all the forums, the more confused I get.
I started looking at OCZ PC 3700 Dual Gold Rev.2, but as soon as I made my mind up on that it cannot be found anywhere. Would Kingston HyperX PC4000 or Mushkin PC4000 be a good choice? I am not crazy about the 3-4-4-8 timings of the Kingston but there is a good sale at BestBuy today for $99.99 after rebate. It seems the Mushkin DDR 500 can be tightened down to close timings at DDR400 if need be. I was also wondering about Mushkin PC 3200 2-2-2 Special or OCZ Enhanced Bandwidth PC 3500. The Mushkin seems to have tight timings but not much headroom to overclock, the OCZ EB 3500 might work fine, just haven't seen much reviews except the Anand test.
Currently the proc is overclocked to 220 FSB - 3300 GHz stable but won't go better than 147 MHz with the Crucial PC 2100 (2x256) memory from my old board (SOYO Dragon - a most frustrating board if ever there was one). I would like to get the right RAM as it seems anything I purchase will cost around $300 now. This computer is used for games, Internet use and e-mail and will be set up for video editing as soon as I can select the proper memory.
I know this forum has a lot of experts with years of experience so your opinions would be greatly appreciated.
