WHAT RAM TO BUY?? HELP!!

Hi there,

When I first built my machine a couple of years ago I was recommended Corsair XMS 3700 TwinX (DDR). Don't think this was a great decision, but I got myself 2x256 from overclockers.co.uk and everything has been fine, although I still don't get memory timing!!!

I have done a little overclocking, but not a great deal..

SPEC: Asus PC4800 Deluxe, Intel P42.4c (Overclocked to 3.0ghz), Radeon 9800XT, Western Digital Raptor for the OS and Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 for the Data. And the 2x256 Corsair XMS 3700.

Sorry to go on, but my question is, I now think I want to add another 2x256 to get me up to 1gb RAM, but I don't know what to get, due to all the complexities with the timings? I can't find Corsair TwinX DDR PC3700 anywhere; so I was wondering if I would be able to use different speed Ram with the 3700? I don't know what the implications are of any of this and think I maybe made a Massive mistake with the 3700!?

Thanks for your help...

But, I believe they'll run at the speed of the slowest RAM
Or slower. I had two PC3200 sticks with different timings downclock to 333MHz when used together.

Sell your old RAM and buy two identical 512MB sticks, that's the only way you can make sure it'll work fine.

I would, but who is going to buy TwinX Corsair XMS 3700 (512Mb) ?
Do i go with Ebay?

I still have the Packaging in mint condition and everything! LOL.

Hmm, now i need to go to Corsairs website to work out what is the best RAM for my system.

God I hate all these memory timing thingys!

Well here is what Corsair reckon:

Best Overclocking:TWINX1024-4400C25 / DDR-550 (XMS-4400C25) / 2.5-4-4-8

Lowest Latency:TWINX1024-3200XL / DDR-400 (XMS-3200XL) / 2-2-2-5

XPERT - Configurable On-Module LED Display:TWINXP1024-3200C2 / DDR-400 (XMS-3200C2) / *2-3-3-6 / 2.5-3-3-6

They reckon the TWINX1024-3200C2 is the most popular... So how is that going to be different from my 3700?

I don't get any of this!

I just took a look at newegg. You'd be better off buying value 500MHz RAM than low latency 466MHz. Costs a lot less, performs marginally worse (if at all), and is safer to overclock.
