What RAM can I use in my Mac Mini?

I have a G4 Mac Mini 1.42GHz with only 256MB of RAM and would like to up it to either 512 or 1GB. I have found a walkthrough on how to take it apart, but I am wondering exactly what RAM I would be able to use.

I see that it takes PC2700, but can I just use any old PC2700? I understand it may not like cheapie POS RAM, just like some PC motherboards might not. But how about some standard Kingston PC3200 for instance... would that work?

Thanks if anyone can offer any help!

Use the Memory Selector on Crucial.com to find the appropriate memory 1st.

You can use faster PC3200 RAM, the system will just clock it down to PC2700 speed.

I just wanted to say that I'm posting from the Mini with 1GB of Kingston installed.

Too bad that I still can't run Aperture or Final Cut, which is what I was hoping to do (for my girlfriend). Turns out the newer ones can't either. What is the use of them then?

The new ones can't because they're Intel? Give it time.... the transition to Intel chips is not going to reverse. The new minis have 2x RAM slots for 2GB don't they? GMA950 video though. *barf*

Give mini one more generation and it'll really rock though.... but if you need to move up, I know I'd snag an iMac if the affordable opportunity presented itself.

i do know that sometime the OS won't boot if the timings aren't right. make sure you get RAM that is qualified for Mac as i doubt you can change the timings in a Mac.

The onboard video on the new and old doesn't meet the requirements 🙁.

I'd rather buy 2-3 sticks of random RAM and find one of them that works than overspend on some RAM that is really "nothing special".

I pulled from existing systems that had more ram than necessary in the first place.
