What qualifies as good elevator music?

In most cases, particularly for music on hold - lack of copyright.

And strictly speaking, I suppose that's not true. The music may still be copyrighted, but it's typically royalty free.

Basically: cheap, generic sounding (has to be, to keep from infringing on the copyrights of any known works) music.

Anyone else ever ask themselves what the purpose of "elevator music " is and why that particular style of music is seemingly accepted as the best solution?

What was it? It says "Not Available" when I try to play it. :(

The latest OCRemix I saw uploaded was an awesome trip hop mix from that game.

Oh, and having the ROM is not a point of pride. The cart was $10 new for years. ANY self respecting Nintendo/Rare fan has at least one copy!
