I'm going to see a place in about 2 hours. I've never done this before, so what should I ask about?

ask if it has roaches or any other insects. :| :| :|
ask about laundry facilities, pool access, mailboxes, and trash, location of visitor parking

it's a room in a house, but after that I'm going to be looking at a bunch of rooms in appts, so tips for both apply

Eh... ask roommate lifestyle questions... Who can come over, what times etc.
Also ask about (electric, water, heat, gas, internet, phone, cable ) utilities, covered, split, etc

some stuff from my apartment finding checklist:

Rent?specials? Pro-rated over how many months
When available
Deposit
Application fee
Other fees?
How long is the lease
Storage space
Microwave, washer/dryer (hookups?), dishwasher?
a/c?
which floor
Pets allowed
Dsl/cable
Any dates that moving is not allowed
Parking--covered, garage? In lease? Fees?
How many keys/remotes?deposits?
Trash pickup? Fees?
How much light in apartment? View? What direction does it face?
any nearby airports/fire stations/police stations

Does the landlord live on the premises or nearby? Is there a property manager nearby? Are either of these people going to intrude on your lifestyle?

Go back in the evening and look to see if the vechicle to apartment units ratio is correct. There is nothing worse than living in a complex that full of familys that have ten people living in a two bedroom unit.

Being poked in the eyes with hot needles isn't worse?
