Was wondering, what's the minimum power supply should I use to run a

Sempron 2800+ w/ ECS nForce3-A with built in sound and LAN
1x Thermaltake Venus 12 heatsink with 120x120 fan
2x 512MB DDR400
3x IDE HDD 7200rpm
1x DVD burner
GeForce 6600GT, running on 1600x1200 resolution
1x extra LAN card
4x 120x120 fan

can a Enermax 300W do the job??

probably. enermax is a good brand, and neither the sempron nor the 6600gt suck down tons of juice. that system probably doesn't max out above 200 watts from the wall.

I see... coz i don't know how to compute the required power of the system, and was afraid that I would need to buy something like 400 ~ 500W of PSU just to run it. :p

pick up a 400-450w fortron, seasonic, pcp&c, ocz, etc... and you'll be fine, with plenty of overhead for upgrades as well.

That looks like a light rig, $40 Fortron AX400 400W at newegg should do the job just fine with juice to spare for the future. Has dual 12v rails, 12CM Fan (very quiet), and sleeved cables.

hmmmm i don't think i will upgrade this box...ever, since if ever i need a better machine it will be a new one from head to toe :p

So will 300W suffice the setup? which will run 24/7 non stop and at full CPU load.

This might be a noobish question, but the spec sheet (PDF) for this says it works with the Intel LGA775 chipset. I assume it would work with any chipset as long as the board is compliant, but why does it list this chipset in particular?

Don't be cheap in this case. Low wattage is fine, but you want efficiency! Seasonic. or another 80Plus

edit: 300w Seasonic 80Plus $50

well...coz it's running on 24/7 i need it to be less powerconsuming as possible that can still run stably... actually i think i should change the question to "what is the minimum power supply i can use to run..." hehehe

lol... i hope i can change the topic...it should go like "can an enermax 300W power up this system" hehe. coz the only "known" brand we have here is Enermax and Coolermaster ... and Task (what the **** is this?)... so i guess i'm going to get a Enermax 300W then??

follow up question is....when you say 300W....it means that it is the maximum power right? not necessarily like when I place this 300W PSU on a.. let's say
AMD Duron hmmm 600Mhz, 1x 7200rpm HDD, 1x Optical Drive, GeForce 2, ordinary sound card, ordinary 10/100 LAN card....and so on, it doesn't mean it eats 300W but around 200++W only right?

Now if you want a PSU to run 24/7 you should get any PSU about 400 W , with Active PCF i think it is, meaning it wount produce more power than you should use :)

Edit: Its Active PFC :) http://www.endpcnoise.com/cgi-bin/e/pfc.html , got a nice 510 W PSU from chill, verry low noice 120 mm fan, and the cables is really nice ( rounded cables) , and its was really cheap, been running this for years now, and never had any problems, just hope the active PFC is working, so i would save some money on the electric bill :)

Let me give you the 'pecking order' of these companies here:

1. PC Power & Cooling - If you don't know who they are, you don't know anything about PC PSUs.
2. Seasonic - where companies have to have data centers deployed in places and countries where electricity is expensive, Seasonic is there. 25 year old company.
3. Zippy/EMACS - Found in servers everwhere.
4. Fortron - The Original. Often rebranded.
5. Coolermaster
6. Channel Well Tech & Co (Antec & XClio rebrands these)
7. Enermax

Re - TAGAN 480 - It is compliant with all chipsets and mobos for pc. - 20 and 24pin, extra 4 pin plugS. etc. Loads of Molex, heavy little ah heck too.
Silent as you can get with fans. (Can only hear it if my ear is right to it.)

So where does Tagan fit in this list?
