My PSU just died and my dad and I want to get new ones anyway. According to the
2003 power supply roundup
the Fortron FSP400-60PFN is the best choice. Its at newegg for $66.99, unfortunitally it had alot of bad reviews in relation to noise under heavy power draws. I'm also thinking about Sparkle. Im hoping to get 2 PSU's around $60 each, but I will go more if its worth it. Any recommendations?

Setup: (so you know the power draw)
Dad:
Asus A7N8x
AMD 2400+
Radeon 9800
DVD Burner
Sony CD burner
3 x 80 gig hard drives
4 fans

me:
About the same

Antec,Sparkle,Enermax etc,the Antec True Power series are favourites for a lot of AT members.

Fortrons are better quality than Antec, and output more power for their rating. I'd suggest the 350W unit from Newegg for $42. It's the same as the Sparkle unit tested here. Same 120mm fan, etc. Good for over 400W peak, has a speed controll for the fan, and a 120mm fan cools better at quieter RPM's.

Crash tell me why Fortons are better than Antecs?

I think Fortrons are better too, they cost less & put out lots of power.

Heck i run my rig with a 300 Watts Fortron psu. check out my system link below to see what I am running. :)

Hmm... which one's got the three-year warranty that actually works if you need to warranty something, though? :sun: I think the FSP 350W unit is good too, but there's two sides to the coin here. :)

For the record, most (good) PSUs can sustain over 140% of their rated output if they're pushed to it, 1Crashman. Doesn't strike me as a smart idea, not if you're keeping the unit for the long run.

Ok thanks guys for the responses, I looked & researched the Fortons along with others before I decided on the Antec. One of the reasons I choose the Antec over the Forton was the 2 fan setup with smartpower. I was just asking 1crash incase i missed something but guess I didn't.
