What PSU should go with my new system? Do I really need a lot of watts?

Im building a new computer;

Q6600
BFG 680i
8800gt
2x DVD burners
2x hard drives

Most likely will never be going SLI. Do I really need a lot of watts? I see all these new computers going with really high wattage PSU's, but is it needed?

The power supplies Im looking at now are the;

Corsair HX620w
Antec TPQ 850 (though ive heard this has problems with the 8800 series cards)
Antec TPQ 1000 (does this have the same issues as the TPQ 850?)
Cooler Master real power 750 & 850
Antec Neo power blue 650

Im leaning twoards the Corsair 620 right new because Ive heard so manya good things about it. Im just concerned that 620W will not be sufficient for my new comp.

If you're not going SLI, 620W is more than enough. 450W would be plenty.

At any rate, if you're not planning to go SLI, why are you buying an Nvidia motherboard?

Because Ive been using nvidia boards since nforce 2 and have always liked them. Im not saying I will not go SLI, jsut at the moment I am not considering it.

Pick the components you like of course, but just so you know, the 680i boards have had some trouble overclocking quad-core chips from what I've read, if that was in your plan. Also, I believe (but I'm not sure, so you'll want to check up on this if it matters to you) that their support for 45nm quad-cores is spotty.

If you want the modular cables of the HX series, the 520HX would be plenty for what you're doing.

If you're not going to do SLI, you don't need anything bigger than 500~550W.

If you're leaning towards the Corsair HX620W, get it.

That's a great PSU. BTW I run the same rig as yours with Q6600 @ 3.4ghz and the hotter 8800GTS (the old style) on the 520 watt version.

620 for $110

The VX550 series will also be more than sufficient and it's only $65.

I've got the HX520 and I'm glad I paid a bit extra to get a modular PSU, makes a big difference with cable management, even SLI ready assuming your cards aren't power hogs.

I picked up the HX620 today, $84.99. Its going in my new comp in a couple weeks, Im sure Ill be happy with it. Im definitely glad I got a modular PSU, my current PSU is modular and I would hate to have to go back to normal.

That's a really great PSU and an even better price. Where did you get such a good deal if you don't mind me asking?
