What programming code does the GameCube use? How do I run the code?

I saw somewhere that this can be done. I know I need to interface it with a computer in order to run customized code and I think I do that with the broadband adapter. But also, how do I get it to run the code I make? Is there a special disc I can purchase that does this?

Besides, the GameCube has a powerful FPU! Maybe I can rewrite the SETI@Home client for Nintendo GameCube! :) I mean, the program uses 14MB of memory and the GameCube has 16MB! :D

Hmmmm.....

Uh, what do you mean by "programming code"... that doesn't make any sense.

You would first need to buy a cable that will connect to the Gamecube to the PC via USB (also need assoc. software to load the code into the GC). Next, you will have to get a development suite that will compile C/C++ source code to the target hardware, (Gekko based CPU). All of which are not publicly available to consumers. There might be a homebrew cable out there and possiblly an Assembler.

MetroWorks makes the dev. suite you need (CodeWarrior for GC), but inorder to purchase it you need to be a licensed developer for Nintendo.

How about starting out with the DreamCast which is much more homebrew dev friendly

I own a GameCube that's why. My Dad owns a company, I wonder how much it would be to license his company to be a GC programmer...

I'm guessing 10K+

btw, you can buy a Dreamcast for $35 or less used and build your own coders cable. There are free dev tools also.

I thought the GC only used the gekko for graphics and used a powerpc chip for it's cpu?

But the Dreamcast isn't very powerful compared to the GameCube. :(

If you're going to be using it for 100% Legal Uses, and the mods are now likely monitoring this thread for illegal suggestions ...

Use a BBA and the PSO bootcode exploit to boot your custom code, and get the open-source libraries. Compile some C/C++ code for the PPC platform and crunch away.

People on the net are already exploiting a vulnerability in PSO to run stuff on gamecube over a network (with the GC's broadband adapter)...
