Hey all,

I have been using WMP, but i find now it does not fully support VBR files, and it is said to be full of spy ware. Ive have used Winamp in the past, but i never realy liked it, i have also heard the nerwer versions use spyware. so i am wontering what my fellow anantechians use and/or recomend.

thanx

Winamp for audio. GlobalDIVX for video. If you use GlobalDIVX, uncheck "Savenow" on the installation program, that little feature is spyware but won't install if unchecked.

I use Winamp 2.81 for MP3's, and WMP 6.4 for DiVX files. On a side note, Winamp doesn't come with spyware, although Winamp 3 does send "anonoymous user statistics"(just how often it's used and what it's used for - MP3s, AVIs, Shoutcast), unless disabled. On another side note, what is this doing in General Hardware; this needs to be in Software.

Right now I use Winamp 3 for everything (MP3, OGG, and DivX). Winamp 3 does have some serious speed issues (even though my computers aren't necessarily the fastest, Winamp still feels like it's running on a P-MMX 200mhz with 96MB of RAM). Winamp 2.81 is much faster, but I've not bothered to upgrade to it yet. In the past (and in the future, if I decide to upgrade), I used Winamp 2.81 for MP3 / OGG, and WMP 6.4 for DivX.
